What a way to end an unforgettable day! 🇺🇬✨
After a full day of insightful discussions, networking, and celebrating the achievements of Ugandans in the diaspora, the First Inaugural Uganda UK & Ireland Diaspora Convention concluded with a sumptuous gala dinner filled with great food, laughter, and fellowship.
The excitement reached its peak with a lucky draw, where one fortunate attendee walked away with a free return ticket courtesy of Uganda Airlines. ✈️🎉
And, of course, no Ugandan celebration is complete without culture. The evening came alive with vibrant music, dance, and the warmth of Ugandan hospitality, reminding everyone that no matter where we live, our culture continues to unite us.
It was the perfect ending to a memorable convention; one that strengthened connections, celebrated our heritage, and reaffirmed the vital role of the diaspora in Uganda's future.
Until next time… Tutawoonana, Uganda! 🇺🇬❤️

“We believe that this will not only increase our exports but also form lasting partnerships,” Amb. @richardkabonero | Head of Economic & Commercial Diplomacy (ECD) | @UgandaMFA#WorldOfCoffee
Today, I also met with the leadership of the National Social Security Fund (@nssfug ) to discuss the Fund’s performance, strategic priorities, and the role of social security in Uganda’s development agenda.
We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and NSSF, expand pension coverage, promote voluntary savings, and improve retirement income security, especially for workers in the informal sector.
I commended NSSF for its continued growth and prudent management of members’ savings, and emphasized the importance of accountability, sound governance, and aligning investments with national priorities.
The Government remains committed to working closely with NSSF to extend social security coverage and support a future where more Ugandans have sustainable financial security in retirement.
Commendable engagement by the Uganda delegation in strengthening strategic partnerships that advance our shared vision for sustainable trade and value addition. Such collaborations continue to enhance Uganda's position in the global coffee industry while creating mutual opportunities for growth.

Day 2:UG’s Coffee Moment
It is indeed Uganda’s moment in the world market of coffee. In part because of what happened today. But largely because of what Sara Morrochi told me. She is the Founder/CEO of Vuna. I met her at the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon Coffee stall in the Producers Village at the expo. Basically Ugandan Arabicas are stealing Brazilian market share in the Mediterranean. Roasters find them more value for money as a perfect substitute. Combined with our premium robustas, she told me that this is making Uganda the hottest coffee origin in the market. We are the main discussion in the coffee corridors.
As if on cue, @GovUganda made a strong presence led by Hon. @DESIREtheFARMER at the opening of the expo where Uganda is the #PriorityCountry. The delegation that included @PS_MAAIF PS/ST @rggoobi, @Tybisa PS @UgandaMFA, Amb. @richardkabonero Amb.
Mirjam Blaak, Amb. Marcel Tibaleka Amb. Arthur Kafeero, Dr. Gerald Kyalo, Commissioner @CoffeeUganda, the list is long. They were all here for the launch of the national coffee brand. This is the other reason it was Uganda’s moment. To confirm this, our booth has been the busiest location of any national origin.
For me the highlight was to be joined by my son, Mpanju. It gave me the perfect chance to show him what the coffee business is all about. He can now relate why we do what we do with our coffee at @RugyeyoFarmLtd. He will have a better understanding what the family business of growing and selling coffee means and requires. I also made some business contacts. It was a day well spent
We congratulate the newly passed-out Immigration Officers and look forward to them serving their country with the utmost patriotism and professionalism.
Highlights of Day 3. We got the bikes and rode from Milan,Italy to Chamonix in France. What an amazing experience. Mont Blanc tunnel and the mountain scenery. Twisting roads and the authentic Ugandan vibe to go with it.

Uganda is decisively repositioning itself from a passive consumer to a sovereign producer within the global biomedical order. The scientific proceedings at the 3rd day of STI Innovation Retreat on Friday, 26th June 2026 signal a structured and irreversible entry into the frontier of the Pathogen Economy anchored in innovation, resilience, and industrial self-determination, with a clear ambition of powering Uganda toward a USD 500B economy by 2040.
The national research portfolio demonstrates deliberate technological diversification in vaccinology, spanning recombinant sub-unit platforms, inactivated formulations, and next-generation viral-vector systems designed for rapid adaptability to emerging and re-emerging pathogens. In parallel, advanced diagnostics particularly salivary, point-of-care nanobody-based assays and precision PCR technologies are redefining surveillance architecture through decentralization, molecular precision, and rapid deployment at the community interface.
Beyond therapeutics and diagnostics, a critical transformation is unfolding in bio-industrial engineering. The strategic vertical integration of biotechnology with indigenous bio-resources, including the valorization of agricultural substrates into pharmaceutical-grade excipients, is constructing a circular bio-economy that fuses agriculture, molecular science, and scalable manufacturing. Collectively, these advancements consolidate a transition from clinical dependency to biomedical sovereignty, positioning Uganda as an emerging architect of resilient, export-ready global biomanufacturing systems. #PathogenEconomy #BiomedicalSovereignty #STIWorks

It was a pleasure catching up with the former China Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Zhang Lizhong, in Beijing last week. Delighted to learn that he & his wife continue to cherish Uganda deeply & are capturing those memories in a beautiful pictorial publication, “Cool Equator Meets the Poetic Nile.”
