Before leaving Chennai, it felt necessary to visit the iconic Kasturi Building, the historic headquarters of The Hindu. It is not just a building it is a place deeply connected to India’s freedom struggle, social change and the legacy of fearless journalism. Inaugurated on 25 November 1939 at Anna Salai (Mount Road), the building still stands as a symbol of thought, resistance and democracy.

It was a great opportunity to meet Vaishna Roy, the editor of Frontline. Encounters with such places and such people provide a lasting direction and inspiration in the journey of journalism.

I demanded in Parliament that PATERNITY LEAVE should be a legal right in India.

When a child is born, both parents are congratulated. But caregiving responsibility falls on one. The mother.

A father should not have to choose between caregiving for his newborn and keeping his job. And a mother should not have to go through childbirth & recovery without her husband’s support

Right after childbirth the woman, needs her husband’s presence the most. The husband’s caregiving responsibility towards his wife is equally important.

I raised this issue in Parliament because caregiving is a shared responsibility. Our laws must reflect that.

मराठी भाषा, मराठी अस्मिता आणि मराठी प्रथम याबाबत बोलताना कायमच मराठीचा लढा ज्या पक्षाभोवती केंद्रित आहे, त्यांच्या सोयीस्कर भूमिकेवर प्रत्युत्तर देताना आमचे दात घशात जातात, ही मराठी लढ्यातील अनेक कार्यकर्त्यांची भावना आहे.

ठाकरेंची मुलं इंग्रजी शाळेत शिकली, म्हणून भाषा धोरणावर त्यांनी बोलायचं नाही का? असा प्रतिवाद देऊन मी वेळ मारून नेतो.

जेव्हा ठाकरे अदानी अंबानीना भेटतात तेव्हा, वैयक्तिक संबंध आणि राजकीय भूमिका दोन्ही वेगळ्या गोष्टी आहेत, असं सांगत महाराष्ट्राच्या कथित राजकीय संस्कृतीचा हवाला देऊनही कित्येकदा टिर बडवून घेतली आहे.

काँग्रेस आणि भाजपच्या भाषा धोरणात समानता असली तरी देशाची संघराज्य पद्धत असल्याने राज्य स्वायत्तता आणि राष्ट्रीय भूमिका याचा ताळमेळ असला पाहिजे, म्हणून शिवसेनेच्या "राष्ट्रीय" पक्षांसोबतच्या तडजोडीच्या राजकारणाचीही पाठराखण केली.

पण जेव्हा आदित्य ठाकरे आपल्याच भावाचे खासगी आयुष्य उध्वस्त करणाऱ्याच्या पार्टीत जातात, तेव्हा मराठीच्या लढ्याला मूर्त राजकीय स्वरूप देण्याच्या हेतुने लढणाऱ्यांनी कसा प्रतिवाद द्यायचा?

अशाने पोटापाण्याचे प्रश्न बाजूला सारून लोकं राजकीय बळ देतील काय? याचा आदित्य यांनी विचार जरी केला तरी हे ही नसे थोडके...
