The owners would pay the same exact % of their revenue to the players without a cap, so they obviously wouldn't care in regard to the fictional "paying extra" you're talking about.

Players aren't paid the salary figure that's publicly reported. They're paid a proportionate amount of total spending, given their reported salary and the league's total basketball related revenue.

@ericbshaw @DrayKudasai @KingJosiah54 If they removed the salary cap, the players would still receive the exact same percentage of revenue as they do now, as negotiated. The difference is that some teams would pay a disproportionately higher/lower % instead of it being spread evenly.
