I've done something neat for #screenshotsaturday. I tried to record the essence of the gameplay of my idle-strategy #indiegame in a timelapse. This is one of the end-game builds you may choose. Plz like, react as this is my first time doing video editing ๐๐
#indiedev#gamedev
my idle strategy is in polishing balancing phase and that's tough so I took some time to do a side story: to learn a netcode in #unity and make a small game. No graphic though..
This is my 1 day progress

I dunno about you but I always start games as these circle-square-triangle prototypes... Sometimes I do a graphical mockup but mechanical prototyping with just the shapes is soo much better
I will say that I really had a theory that grid based is more strategic in nature, as it is rigid and positional, but when i did it it looked like in the context of my game that is... an exception? And it is way more natural to just place buildings freely
Sometimes, when you do #gamedev you think:
"hmm.. what if.. grid๐"
then you think:
"Hmm.. what if.. isometry๐คจ"
then you hack for 3 hours, understand that it looks and plays like GARBAGE so you throw it away.
Then you think:
"I will post in on Twitter"

@ninza_game the guy that is really intriguing in these posts is that flying fish wanderin around all the characters:)
Someone needed to address this elephant in the room
This is something I always laugh about -- the icons for blob's velocity upgrades in my idle-strategy #indiegame. I tried to make a "never skip a leg-day" jokes out of them ๐
(Btw they(blobs) have names. The central one is Karl & the right one is Bobby)

@cluosion@notch so true, being the student for the last 4 years I may for sure say that there was this transition about a year ago when the professors started to say "well you ALL use ai now, so you just do your assignments faster", hence more wierd tasks without emphasis on understanding...๐
@hopeslicergd For me taking a break helps too, but then I just forget important stuff._. though return my motivation and ability to think as a player about whether I see in the game
@hopeslicergd That is really true. I try not to trust myself ans do in-person playtests with 2-3 new player then do some dev for 1-3 weeks to solve the main problems from the playtests. This actually prioritizes my todos and make me think about real problems with a game..
@AmberwindGames played it for about an hour on itch (in april/may?) Though the genre is not really my thing I appreciated the care with which the game is made. The ui is insanely well crafted and there are all these subtle animations and detais on interactions. Really well done
@orgunbertan Yea, I was surprised about half a year ago that you can just upload your game and get netural traffic.. This platform is really something that is still associated with indie today
It looks like at some point in life all the gamedevs should make a frog game ๐ธ.
(mine is in a prototyping stage for a while, but now I dont do it :/)
@TheGamerHotspot This is my main last week result. The tutorial section. Next up is a playtest but before it some bugfixing & balancing to stabilize the play

Lots of stuff is happening but the next week I'm finishing my internship & have a little gap to do more #gamedev.
For now I'll show what I've done before a playtest (a little rough version of a tutorial). This'll be both a tutorial & a starting menu later.
