A statement from the Eritrean government could significantly alleviate the concerns of Eritrean families. A simple declaration, such as "this is not true" or "we have raised our concerns with the Egyptian authorities," would help ease their worries considerably.

Eritrean refugees in Egypt face abuse, detention & violence. Clear breaches of international law. Egypt must honor the 1951 Refugee Convention & #UNHCR should investigate urgently. Human rights aren't optional. @UNHumanRights@UN@hrw_ar@Refugees@hrw@UNEgypt@amnesty
Refugees in Cairo are being treated worse than criminals: beaten, extorted for sleep, and exposed to sexual assault. This is systematic torture disguised as detention. The world is watching — end this abuse immediately.@moiegy@hrw@AJEnglish@AlsisiOfficial@amnesty
The ongoing abuse of Eritrean refugees by Egyptian police is a grave violation of human rights. Reports of arbitrary detention, physical beatings, forced deportations, and sexual violence are deeply alarming and unacceptable. Refugees are vulnerable people seeking safety and protection not targets for brutality and terror.
These actions must stop immediately. Authorities must be held accountable, and the safety, dignity, and human rights of Eritrean refugees must be respected and protected in accordance with international law. The world cannot remain silent in the face of such suffering.
Justice, protection, and humanity must prevail.

No person should be subjected to rape, abuse or indefinite detention while seeking refuge. These reports from Egypt are horrifying. We urge the @Refugees to exercise its mandate to the fullest extent & demanding immediate access to detention centers. @UN@UNHumanRights@UNHCREgypt
URGENT: Reports indicate 3,000+ Eritrean refugees including women & minors are detained in Egypt.
According to The New Arab citing Human Rights Concern – Eritrea, detainees face alleged abuse and risk of forced deportation back to Eritrea.
If true, this is a grave violation of international law.
Eritreans flee repression under President Isaias Afwerki.
Forcibly returning them could mean imprisonment, indefinite conscription, or worse.
🚨 We call for:
• Immediate halt to deportations
• Full access for @UNHCREgypt & @Refugees
• Urgent intervention from @UNmigration
• Independent investigation by @amnesty & @hrw
• International humanitarian oversight
@FilippoGrandi@KellyTClements@RaoufMazou@UNReliefChief the world is watching.
Protect Eritrean refugees.
Protect the children.
Uphold international law.

@UNHCREgypt@Refugees@UNHumanRights@hrw@amnesty@AlsisiOfficial — Intervene NOW! Prevent refoulement!
"Afghan refugees and other displaced Afghans, including those resettled in the United States and elsewhere, did not leave their homes by choice. They were forced to flee because the current political and security status quo in Afghanistan has left them with no safe, dignified way to remain in their country. Many have survived war, persecution, and betrayal; they now worry they may be judged not as individuals, but as a threat. We respectfully urge that no form of collective punishment, scapegoating, or policy backlash be directed at Afghan refugees, asylum seekers, or other displaced Afghans in response to a single tragic incident involving one individual."
