@Karynregal@public9965@CityofMelrose I think the highest value of the council is being advocates in and outside of meetings. I try, but I know we are fighting against decades of disinvestment and apathy and we don't have the momentum of Somerville or Cambridge. But, you can bet the city will hear from me on this.
@Karynregal@public9965@CityofMelrose Yes I 100% agree with you. Email the mayor's office, and email the full council. Tell them all we need action now. I'm onboard already. Someone literally died at Wyoming and Berwick and it took years of persistent advocacy to get a pedestrian safety flag that lasted one day.
@Karynregal@public9965@CityofMelrose@MassDCR And, of course, these things are not free. So even with the political will, we need enough breathing room in the budget to schedule regular annual road improvements with ped/bike safety at the front. We're waiting now for a potential $1m grant from the MPO to help.
@Karynregal@public9965@CityofMelrose@MassDCR So believe me when I say that it's as frustrating for me as it is for everyone else, which is why I continue to advocate with the mayor for a Vision Zero Commission in Melrose that would have more authority to pressure city government to move more quickly on these fixes.

I'll be out collecting yard signs in the next day or two - hoping to get them all before the weekend. You can leave the sign in your yard. If you've already taken it out, leave it somewhere I can see like a front porch. I'll get in touch if I can't find it.
