@seanspicer Well if Platner drops out, Janet Mills did get the second most votes in the primary held in June. Wouldn’t that be the correct, ethical thing to happen—and respect the will of the voters in that contest, Sean?
@SteveCollinsSJ@grahamformaine@SenatorCollins If Platner drops, the ethical process would be to name Janet Mills as rhe nominee as the runner up in the primary (honoring the will of the Maine voters). If Mills declines then it should be David Costello. Imho this would eliminate accusations of the party thumbing the scale.

@aseitzwald@SeanTrende And that was the year Democrats picked up EIGHT US Senate seats. But my home state of Maine was the only blue state where that didn’t happen. Collins is from my hometown of Caribou, Maine. She’s brought home a lot of federal investment since 1997 and voters haven’t forgotten.

HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT IN 30 MINUTES:
@TylerEnglander The smarter approach is for Dems to move on, take the loss and use it as motivation this fall to turnout and make it an even bigger electoral thumping at the polls.
@lxeagle17 Sorry. I live in Maine. I disagree with your #1. Janet Mills got elected governor twice with over 50% of vote (not a regular thing in Maine governor’s races as all but 1 other since 1980 the winner got < 50%). Plus she got a higher # of and % of votes in her reelection!
The more Trump name calls and demeans anyone who dares question or contradict him, the more he telegraphs that he’s losing. If it waddles like a lame duck, squeals like a lame duck, and governs like a lame duck, then perhaps he already knows what stage his presidency has entered.
@SecretaryBurgum And yet the Republicans run the House, Senate and White House. They could in the Senate, end the filibuster for appropriations legislation and pass it with 51 votes (which they have)—regardless of what Dems do. Or…negotiate with Dems. Either way this is up to Republicans!
@LeaderJohnThune Sir-with all due respect. Your party runs the House, the Senate, and the presidency. If you cared about re-opening government you’d make it happen regardless of what the Democrats do. You can in a New York minute, end the filibuster and pass a CR with 51 votes which you have.
To forgive does not mean to deny evil, but to prevent it from generating further evil. It is not to say that nothing has happened, but to do everything possible to ensure that resentment does not determine the future.
