Busy golfer + new dad building Yogey Golf, a free practice app for golfers short on time. Not a coach—building what helps golfers. Syracuse/Boston sports fan.
@4midablescore@drakesmith__ Apologies for hijacking but figured worth a share - I have been building an iOS app (free) with different games like this and would love feedback! Yogey Golf if you want to try it!
@DivotDoctrine Apologies for the plug but I’ve been building a free mobile app as a hobby with a bunch of these types of games/drills. Wanted something that would help me with my own practice.
Yogey Golf if interested and want to provide feedback!
Currently on plus plan you can basically use up all of the weekly usage in about 2 hrs, single thread with sol high/xhigh, no subagent
I remember a month ago it was maybe 1/3 more, and few months ago with gpt 5.5 it would last even longer. And then all the way back to January a plus plan can last for days of heavy use
The subscription has definitely gone through a serious decline
This might be some of the worst Codex news I’ve heard in a while.
OpenAI is bringing the 5-hour limit back for Plus users, while Pro users keep the unrestricted setup.
And part of the explanation was this:
“users on the Plus plan are relatively casual and new users, but then also just accidentally eat through their whole weeks usage and then are confused, making it not a great experience”
So let me get this straight:
Some Plus users burn through their entire weekly quota in a few hours, get confused, complain about it…
and the solution is to put a 5-hour cap on every Plus user?
I’m sorry, but I really don’t buy that as the main reason.
This feels much more like a compute problem, or simply OpenAI deciding that Plus users are consuming more compute than they want them to.
I’ve always been able to stretch my weekly quota across 5–6 days.
Now I’m genuinely worried I won’t even be able to USE the full quota I’m given, because longer coding sessions will constantly get interrupted by a 5-hour window.
And that’s what makes this change so frustrating.
If I have a weekly quota, let me decide how I use it.
Don’t give me the compute and then tell me when I’m allowed to spend it.
Bringing back the 5 hour limit for Plus is probably good for OpenAI.
I just don't think it's good for Plus users.
The “compute smoothing” explanation sounds reasonable on paper, but there’s another very obvious effect:
It makes the weekly limit much harder to burn through in one sitting.
And that matters because heavy Plus users have already shown how quickly the weekly bucket can disappear. Some people can basically destroy their entire allowance in a few hours of serious Codex / ChatGPT Work usage.
Now OpenAI is putting a speed limiter on top of that.
> You can't use everything when you want
> resets become more predictable
> compute demand gets distributed
> fewer users accidentally torch their entire week
That's a pretty great outcome for OpenAI.
For users, though?
You got people accustomed to having no 5 hour restriction, and now you're bringing it back.
If the actual problem is compute load, make the 5 hour limit optional in settings or give users a clear choice between smoother usage and unrestricted bursts.
Because “casual and new users might accidentally use their whole week” is apretty weak reason to impose the same restriction on everyone.
We're paying for the compute.
Let us decide how aggressively we want to use it.
@sportsrapport Also praise to said 37 yo man for 1) incredible multitasking abilities and 2) pregaming a comedy show with a nice book. That’s maturity!
