Understanding hockey is complex.
I’m beginning to realize the actual value of different skill sets and on ice habits for defensemen will not trickle down to coaches and scouts until we have reasonable xT models linked to Markov chains (a critical component). I suggest=>

Also, keep promoting “skilled ways” to exit your D zone.Hanging onto the puck too long & then opening way too wide & telegraphing a cross-ice pass

Icing is still one of the most effective plays in hockey.I’ll take 100 consecutive D zone faceoffs over a costly turnover any day.

Let’s keep over-training these young players on how to stick handle and puck handle and go absolutely nowhere while turning the puck over 100 times per game (esp in the middle of the ice)... Great strategy USA hockey. Meanwhile, the Canadian school keep laughing at us.
