I’ve been pretty radical throughout my life (a lifetime of trauma including being disabled, ND, raped, abused, and bullied will do that), but what REALLY pushed me to the extreme was the discrimination I faced in my postdoc. It was blatant and obvious to all, and I did EVERYTHING right to protect myself. I went to HR. I went to OIE. I had copious notes and emails to myself. I contacted advocates. I knew the law and my rights and their limits. I had multiple witnesses. I had legal support BEFORE I was even fired, and they STILL managed to fire me and to destroy my health and a career I fought for for over a decade. A legal case before the discrimination occurred resulting from my being hit by a car taught me about the burden of proof. My privilege and that knowledge allowed me to protect myself in ways others cannot, yet I STILL failed. I was still illegally fired. I still had my career ruined. It still destroyed me. I lost.
I knew things were bad before, and they were horrible for me before that at times, but now all I can think about is how impossible and terrible it all must be for people with less privilege. I wasn’t able to save my career or my health. But I MIGHT be able to make things better for other people by using my relative privilege to fight this. So, yes, I’ve gone full tilt. And it wasn’t because it was the first time I faced discrimination or hardship; it was because it was when I tried to do everything in my power to fight back, using the systems that be while leveraging my privilege, and it STILL resulted in my being harmed immensely (at a university/academic medical center that had won awards for disability inclusion nonetheless). So, I realized there was no hope for anyone. That’s why I’m fighting. That’s why I’m the obnoxious person who won’t shut up about equity.

For people who keep yelling about communism, read this and perhaps do some research before you start calling people communists. In our opinion, China isn't even communist. Hell, any country that uses capital or money isn't communist.
SO WHAT THE FUCK IS COMMUNISM??
Classless society, focusing on common ownership of the means of production - removal of private property and social classes (as mentioned). Pushes heavily on being a moneyless society and based on needs of the people who are all universally working towards a common goal.

The very issue is, there are way too many people who have zero clue what communism is and just throw the word around and it really has no meaning. Latin: Communis meaning "Universal" - universal control via the people (which of course is defined by state control of everything and the rejection of capitalism). People point to China and say they're communist, but in reality, they're really not. They're a quasi-combo of Capitalistic Authoritarian Socialism.

How do people say China is communist when they literally have massive corporate capitalistic ventures by private companies pushing their agenda? While some of these corporations are absolutely under state control, they still are able to do what they want to do so they can boost China's economy.

Communism is defined as a stateless, moneyless, and classless society. China is not communist. People who call us communist have zero clue about what they're talking about. We are not pushing for a stateless, moneyless, and classless society - thusly, we are not communist. We know people are way too immature to even consider this type of economics / society.

Funny thing Marx said once: Communism can only work when capitalism fails so hard the people revolt. In his theory of historical materialism, Marx posited that all societies go through stages of development, driven by class struggles over the control of the means of production.

Marx's theory suggests that communism cannot be achieved unless capitalism first goes through its internal crises and is overthrown through a proletarian revolution. Capitalism, he argued, is one such stage, characterized by the conflict between the bourgeoisie (owners of capital) and the proletariat (working class).
