81 years after the UN Charter was signed in San Francisco, its promise still points forward. To prevent war, uphold human rights, advance sustainable development and solve problems no country can solve alone. On UN Charter Day, I underlined that in a world where the principles of the UN are under attack, it is our responsibility to defend the UN Charter. Not only today through commemorations but through our actions and by proving, through what we do every day, that the promise made in San Francisco still lives on. One Charter. One Future.
We cannot outrun climate change. Its impacts are already here – reshaping development, stability & security.
We must respond accordingly
Adaptation is not charity. It is essential. It saves lives, safeguards communities & holds societies together.
Peacebuilding often works before a crisis becomes a headline.
At the General Assembly’s consideration of the Peacebuilding Commission report, I underlined why prevention and peacebuilding deserve greater attention and support. Nearly 40% of countries emerging from conflict relapse within five years, while humanitarian funding has fallen sharply.
From Central Asia to Liberia, Colombia and the Central African Republic, UN peacebuilding shows what can be achieved when diplomacy, national ownership, and sustained investment come together.
biology is always evolving! The same is true of humans! So survival of the fittest! Climate change is very difficult for human beings to control! The ideal climate is livable! Climate balance, of course!
The global HIV response is a UN success: infections down 61%, deaths down 70%, millions of lives saved.
Yet at the High‑Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, I warned that progress is stalling. Funding is shrinking, prevention is being scaled back, and stigma is rising.
The end of AIDS is within reach. We cannot let it slip from our hands.

« Nous pouvons enfin tourner la page sur les combustibles fossiles et écrire un avenir porté par les renouvelables et fondé sur la justice climatique. »
— @antonioguterres, Secrétaire général de l’ONU, lors de la Semaine d'action pour le climat, à Londres.

The climate crisis & the energy crisis may seem separate, but they share the same destructive origin:
Fossil fuels.
And they demand the same answer: A fast, fair transition to clean energy & a surge in adaptation, resilience & climate justice for those already facing climate harm.
I warmly congratulate the US & Iran for having reached a peace deal that provides for an immediate & permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a framework for further negotiations. This represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
My deep appreciation goes to Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and other regional countries, for the constructive role played in supporting the negotiations that led to the peace deal.

Excellent meeting with Mathew Fox of @dfat to discuss our shared commitment to delivering tangible development benefits through the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology.
I am grateful to Australia 🇦🇺 for its generous financial contributions to the @IAEAorg, helping countries strengthen cancer care, food security, nuclear safety, scientific cooperation and water management across the Indo-Pacific and beyond through initiatives including #RaysOfHope and #Atoms4Food.
Deeply concerned at the continuing escalation in the Middle East, UN Secretary-General Guterres calls on US and Iran to redouble their efforts towards a peaceful, comprehensive and durable agreement that advances regional and international peace and security.
Hate speech is a growing threat to peace & security.
It divides communities, dehumanizes entire groups, and sets the stage for bloodshed.
We must break this outrageous cycle through education, support for those targeted by abuse & stronger interventions by governments & technology companies.
The restrictions on navigational rights & freedoms in & around the Strait of Hormuz are causing hardship & instability across the world.
Even in the best-case scenario, these shocks will be felt for many months – with developing countries bearing the heaviest impacts.
The world needs a complete ceasefire, with navigational rights & freedoms restored, in line with international law.
