Just spent an hour at a branch of one of the big banks and the staff are wearing their Springbok jerseys. The bank sponsors the Springboks.
In other news, Bafana Bafana start their World Cup next week.
I agree.
Most South Africans are tired and exhausted. The rewards promised for "work hard" never materialised and the business economy has so much red-tape, with inflation and start-up cost unaffordable to most.
Big Business runs this country.
For so many years South Africans have been promised a better life, but things have simply gotten worse.
We think the problem lies with the political party in charge, when in fact it is the CAPITAL who controls it that runs this country.
We cannot leave our future in the hands of politicians and their paymasters.
Even though political parties have manifestos, they must also bend to their funders or face loosing their funding.
I don't claim to be perfectly fluent in Afrikaans, but I can hold my own in a conversation.
And so imagine my surprise when I saw this Afrikaans-language CAPS acceptable Gr 12 study-aid for what is known in English, as Geography.
I thought the Afrikaans word was Aardrykskunde.
@BongsMahlangu_@SA_Trivia It used to be called "avokadopeer", until someone on X renamed it.
It is now, and will forever be WORTELTORTEL!
Whahahaha! 🤪🤪🤪
@brucekrit 100%. All politicians in government today must be held accountable for their actions. Coalition governments seems like our future, where not one party rules with majority.
So, how do we rectify the issues of the past, whilst also addressing issues of the present?
No solution will work unless the wrongs of apartheid is acknowledged and fixed. Our people never healed.
Stolen property never returned.
Illegal gains never acknowledged.
If we're going to have any sort of affirmative action, this actually makes more sense.
This policy would benefit MORE black people than BEE does. Because BEE only benefits already rich elites. This will help people who are poor, by definition, and will stop helping them when they no longer need the help.
Can immigrants in Europe demand an independent state or country in UK or other EU country?
Why do Europeans want a homeland everywhere else in the world, except Europe?
1. You need better relations with us
2. We have free-trade
3. You killed world leaders:; Iran has right to defend itself
4. Stop apartheid; do you support that?
5. Iran is part of BRICS
6. China gives zero tarriffs
Stop with demands and rather work try working togther.
The US ambassador to South Africa just gave an excellent synopsis of the issues the South African government must address if it wants a better relationship with Washington:
“ 'The non-alignment issue...is one of the top concerns that we have...We need South Africa to return to a non-aligned status'."
" 'Israel is America’s staunchest ally and we are going to defend and protect Israel in return...Israel was well within her right to defend herself'."
" '[Hamas et al.] make it a point to affirm this desire to wipe out the State of Israel. Does the South African government want to be aligned with that kind of thinking'?”
" 'the South African government has to ask itself the degree to which it wants to be in solidarity with a [Iranian] government that eagerly slaughters tens of thousands of its own people in its own streets'."
" 'There’s an executive order that prevents any investment from the US in South Africa...if you want things like trade barriers dropped, investment at a time when South Africa desperately needs jobs ‒ we have US companies that desperately want to do business and we have billions that are just sitting there. There are some great deals that can be made with South Africa. We all want it to happen. But these things have to be resolved'.”
Open letter to President @realDonaldTrump following the extension of the Afrikaner refugee programme
We greatly appreciate his administration's outspoken concerns for minority communities in South Africa but propose an alternative solution - help us secure a home here in Africa

Since its enactment in 2000, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been at the core of U.S. economic policy and commercial engagement with Africa. AGOA provides eligible sub-Saharan African countries with duty-free access to the U.S. market for over 1,800 products, in addition to the more than 5,000 products that are eligible for duty-free access under the Generalized System of Preferences program. By providing new market opportunities, AGOA has helped bolster economic growth, promoted economic and political reform, and improved U.S. economic relations in the region.

Three months ago today, my son and I arrived in America as refugees from South Africa, leaving everything behind in search of safety and opportunity.
In just 5 weeks of full-time work, we’ve both been promoted. I’ve been asked to lead an entire new branch of the company — and my son is coming with me.
Hard work, determination, and fresh ideas got noticed and rewarded. The training is intense and accelerating fast, but we’re ready to rise to the challenge.
This isn’t just a promotion, it’s living proof that America is still the greatest country on Earth — where you’re judged by what you can contribute, not who you know or where you came from.
We arrived determined to become self-sufficient as quickly as possible, and we are almost there. What we didn’t expect was the overwhelming generosity, kindness, and support from the American people. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.
This country has given us a real chance, and we will make you proud - thank you, @realDonaldTrump
