@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson Literally the only good thing about the early Apple computers were their technical achievements. Commodore outsold them constantly, at every turn. Steve Jobs almost wrecked the company with the Macintosh.
@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson Jobs did almost nothing to sell the computer. He just convinced Woz to go into business. If it's business achievements you're looking for in early personal computing, Jack Tramiel did a far better job, and he didn't demand anyone call him a genius.
@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson No, the examples of charismatic assholes who have convinced a bunch of dopes that they're geniuses are legion. It usually comes from insecurity. Woz invented most aspects of personal computing in his spare time. He's an absolute teddy bear.
@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson Which, if you'll recall, was my entire point. Isaacson brushed that awfulness under the rug. He acknowledged it, but largely dismissed it as a quirk of genius. It is not.
@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson No, there's value in what he did. But that doesn't make him a genius, and it doesn't excuse the fact that he was just an awful fucking human being.
@desikitteh@name_n_digits @ImmaMess101 @tonybellerose@PalmerReport And yet they still benefited from it and are unlikely to ever be destitute. "Money is a curse" they say as they were set on a path to a decent life by that money, even if there was some unpleasantness there. Cry us a river.
@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson I'm just waiting for you to list a talent. "Charismatic leader" isn't a talent. "Product visionary" is nonsense corporate speak. I'll tell you what his talents were: Advertising, abusing people, and taking too much credit.
@bpickar @BasedAcidity @atrupar@WalterIsaacson Lol. He didn't create shit. He happened to be friends with an actual genius who actually did make large strides in developing the personal computer. His biggest accomplishment was popularizing capacitive touchscreen phones. Creating value isn't a talent. What was his talent?
@name_n_digits @ImmaMess101 @tonybellerose@PalmerReport I'm not jealous at all. I do just fine for myself. I just viciously dislike "less is more" messaging coming from someone who will never truly know what having less means.
@grantresists @richsignorelli He needs a loan against his assets to make the purchase. It is significantly less likely that he will secure that loan while his most stable asset is in absolute free fall.
