📣 Arizona parents — important update on our library advocacy work from our latest blog!
Maricopa County Library District (@MaricopaConnect) has made meaningful progress to strengthen parental rights and protect children through their Parental Choice program.
• Explicit sex-ed books moved from kids’ low shelves to a high shelf in the adult section.
• Parents can link accounts to monitor what their children borrow.
• Powerful opt-out tools for risky materials.
Parents can now OPT-OUT of entire concerning categories like all Juvenile materials or targeted ones such as social science!
While we prefer opt-in policies, these are positive advances with more work ahead. Let @MaricopaCounty Library District serve as a working model for other public library districts.
