Users no longer search in shorthand like "running shoes flat feet."
Today they ask: "What are the best running shoes for a woman training for a marathon with flat feet and arch issues?"
Same intent, but a completely different query 👀
Your job as a marketer is to extract the topics and intent hiding inside conversational searches, not match them word-for-word.

AI traffic grew 66% in 2025, increasing from 462 million to 767 million monthly visits. In absolute terms, AI traffic remains small.
It accounts for just 0.14% of total traffic, compared to 64.69% from direct and 16.04% from organic search. But AI traffic stands out because it’s expanding faster than any other channel, and it’s doing so across nearly every industry.

Google released a major update to the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) in March 2026.
UCP is an open standard that enables AI agents to communicate with ecommerce platforms and complete purchases on behalf of users.
For example, when a user asks Gemini, “Find the best running shoes under $100,” the AI agent can run a search, browse products across retailers, and present relevant options. With user approval, it can then complete the purchase – all enabled by UCP.
The March 2026 update introduces new capabilities, including cart support and access to product catalogs. Google has also simplified onboarding through Merchant Center to attract more retailers. UCP-powered checkout is currently available to eligible U.S.-based merchants, with global expansion planned throughout 2026.

As AI becomes a core part of how people discover brands, keyword research alone is no longer enough.
Traditional SEO measures search demand through volume, rankings, and traffic.
But AI-driven discovery is shaped by prompts, recommendations, citations, and brand mentions within AI-generated responses.
This is where Prompt Research comes in.
Instead of focusing on what people search for, it analyzes how they ask AI for advice – and which brands appear in the answers.
Keyword research and prompt research aren’t competing approaches – they complement each other. Together, they help teams understand both search behavior and AI-influenced decision-making.

Google has introduced Open Knowledge Format (OKF), a new open specification designed to standardize the way content is packaged and shared with AI agents.
The signal is bigger than the spec itself.
As AI systems move from finding information to using it, visibility depends on more than publishing content. It depends on how knowledge is organized, structured, and understood.
For marketers, that raises the stakes:
• Structured information matters.
• Machine-readable knowledge matters.
• Information architecture matters.
The brands that organize their knowledge best could become the brands AI systems retrieve, cite, and trust first.

High rankings don’t guarantee visibility in AI-driven discovery.
Content gaps sit between search results, AI answers, and real user demand.
Brands that map and close those gaps first pull ahead 👇
