We wrapped up our first quarter with the 3rd #EthMunich meetup, and finally some decent weather as well☀️
Still, plenty of Ethereum enthusiasts and curious newcomers made their way to the Deutsches Museum.
We did it and it was snowing❄️again. Our second edition was about AI @base bots using x402 and future of @AerodromeFi & @ethereum DeFi. Danke für joining us and see you next month at https://t.co/moqcbz4CaS . Thanks to @base_germany @bitvavocom@EFetheverywhere@1E9tech
Ethereum Munich Community is back!
Builders & enthusiasts have missed a local spot to connect for way too long. Now we are reviving it with friendly support of Ethereum Foundation's @EFetheverywhere.
First meetup: free (limited spots): https://t.co/aCK8VerNbs
President Ursula von der Leyen officially announced the EU–INC today at Davos!
A single legal entity for all European founders to grow massive companies in Europe. Online incorporation in 48 hours. No more bureaucratic mess across European borders.
All of you made this happen!
The attacks on Europe I've seen here the last couple of days, including from people I've generally considered interesting and sophisticated, have been getting unhinged...
I get that EU has problems - GDPR clickthroughs are dumb, Chat Control is awful, they need to be less bureaucratic and supportive toward entrepreneurs, its kindness toward Ukraine often doesn't extend well to Gaza or Sudan or other places, people saying mean things about criminals getting longer sentences than the criminals is just crazy - but the apocalyptic attitude about the issues, evoking imagery of barbarians pillaging Rome etc, seems really over the top.
It feels more like a coordinated attempt to delegitimize than constructive criticism.
(I don't believe the line that "the target is not Europe, it's the EU": I've seen many instances of London specifically being targeted in the hate session, so no, much of it is an attack on Europe)
It just does not match my experience from spending an average of two months every year there for the last decade.
The founder of @n8n_io is an absolute GOAT:
> Rejected YC because they wanted him to headquarter the company in the US
> Wants to IPO the business in Europe, and ideally in Germany
> Had to politely reject one of his (american) investors' suggestion to relocate the company HQ to the US
This guy clearly loves Europe and wants to see it succeed.
It follows an interesting trend of European founders insisting on building businesses in Europe even if it's doing it on "hard mode".
In Atomico's latest "State of European Tech" report 51% of European founders reported feeling a sense of mission to build and scale their company in Europe, even if it might be harder than elsewhere.
It's something @vriparbelli at @synthesiaIO has spoken about, as well as @antonosika at @Lovable.
European Tech Nationalism is on THE RISE.
This is genuinely great to see as founders deciding to stay in Europe means more jobs here, more growth here, and more taxes paid here.
LETS GO 🇪🇺
Fusa, con-fusa -what? @ethereum’s next upgrade on 3rd December is a big leap in its rollup-centric roadmap. It improves data capacity for L2s, lowers transaction costs and upgrades the EVM for safer, more efficient smart contracts & UX. Let's take a look at it. ELI25🧵
Nobody mapped the scene…so we did it ourselves. Again. 🫡
For the second year in a row, we are putting a spotlight on the builders, founders and creators shaping the future of blockchain in Slovakia; block by block.
I misunderstood the @Ledger multisig announcement the other day. I understood they've decided to charge like a Swiss private bank, but I've only just realized the extent to which they're not actually private at all...
I was also dismayed to see that this is still NOT a Ledger app which actually allows normal people securely sign txs, which was the entire issue in the first place. I refuse to call it "clearsigning". There's just "signing" and "yolo signing", and the ability to not yolo sign is not a premium feature - it's basically functionality without which your product is reckless and irresponsible
But back to the privacy: obviously I opted out of analytics, so imagine my surprise at all the tracker calls which @brave helpfully blocked for me
So what's Ledger trying to share here with the friendly data harvesting technologists at @datadoghq ?
* My personal Safe addresses
* My personal browser metadata
* My personal device metadata (screen resolution)
* My every move that I take on the app
What is this for? Ledger's own privacy policy states that sharing this kind of data requires consent, yet this is happening anyway to a company (Datadog, Inc.) not even mentioned in the privacy policy!
And yes, I fully expect this project will be dead on arrival because of insane pricing. But I'm more concerned that once again a major crypto player like Ledger (and EU based to boot!) doesn't care about basic privacy protection or following the most basic privacy regulations
@Ledger please do better than this, a privacy policy is not just a formality if you are a security company!
🇪🇺💸 @n8n_io just raised 180 million on a 2.5 billion USD valuation!!!
And all of that:
- As a solo founder (Jan Oberhauser)
- With a German entity (No US holding, have a look below at the cap table)
Maybe an exception to the rule.
Potentially a proof that all the propaganda you are hearing is wrong.
You can choose yourself.
🚀 Important proof that you can build a globally relevant company out of Europe, out of Berlin. If you think and build global from day 1.
After Pectra, Fusaka is around the corner and it is coming to Ethereum's testnets. Holesky: Oct 1st. Sepolia: Oct 14. Hoodi: Oct 28. Read more: https://t.co/ahrL2C3E5V
Crypto today is boring in terms of attracting new developers.
If I was a new developer or tech entrepreneur and had the option between AI vs what the current focus of crypto (stablecoins, trading, speculation), I'd probably work in AI.
The answer is twofold:
1. Breaking outside of the constraints that have limited us to building the same things over and over, and I think we're approaching a tipping point where we'll be able to enable net new applications and design space that will be as compelling as AI
2. We need to try and position crypto as just another primitive similar to cloud, mobile, AI, etc... Additive or complementary vs replacement technology. Technology that amplifies human potential rather than competing for mindshare in a zero-sum game.
