This Christmas, my thoughts go to families of the young Kenyans who have been abducted by @DCI_Kenya.
No one deserves to spend their holiest religious holiday incarcerated for speaking out their minds.
We stand with the victims and their families. We demand their immediate release.
🚨🚨BREAKING - The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights @court_afchpr has granted Kenya a three-month adjournment to demonstrate compliance with the Court’s ruling on a case concerning the rights of the Ogiek people. The Respondents for the Kenyan government affirmed their respect for the Court's decisions and overall Rule of Law, reporting that two task forces and an intergovernmental commission had been tasked with preparing a roadmap for the implementation the court’s judgment, but noted challenges, including the recent reshuffle of the Cabinet of Ministers.
In the proceedings Applicant's Lead Counsel, Adv. Bahame Tom Nyanduga, urged the Court to:
▶️Deny the adjournment request.
▶️Issue conservatory measures to halt further Ogiek evictions.
▶️Award financial compensation due to delays in enforcing the decision.
The Court noted that eviction and costs issues would be addressed in the main application at a later date. @MinorityRights@SolomonADersso@donalddeya@MinorityRights@BBCAfrica@TheCitizenTz@citizentvkenya@ntvuganda@ntvkenya@TheStarKenya@HakiKNCHR@katibainstitute@CoalitionAfCHPR@ealawsociety@lawsocietykenya
