1/7 In a short period of time, the PGME community has sadly experienced the tragic loss of 3 of our learners. The positive impact they had, & contributions made during their residency at McMaster will continue to inspire many. They will be missed but always remembered.

Barbara Gunka described the use of DOACs after bariatric surgery. Dabigatran is problematic but Rivaroxaban and Apixaban can be used. No patients needed to go onto warfarin. #ISTH2022
Dr. Gunka presented the largest cohort to-date of 45 patients on DOACs after bariatric surgery with peak levels, dabigatran should be cautioned and more data would be welcome! #ISTH2022
@GBarnesMD Just be cautious that LMWH anti-Xa assays differ considerably in this respect, like comparing apples to oranges (@Ritaselby1's words - not mine). Our experience at McMaster: https://t.co/B1bpRjZ71u
LMWH anti-Xa thresholds varied WIDELY for this purpose

Dear world,
Please do not call us “anesthesia”. We are not a medication.
Acceptable alternatives would be:
Are you the anesthesiologist?
Are you the part of the anesthesia team?
What is your role?
I’m Dr. X and you are?
Thank you for your attention to this PSA.

@BloodClotDoc@DebSiegal Not to brag, but we have not one, not two but FOUR thrombosis physicians on call every day/night @MacDeptMed (one for each hospital site!) 😅
Some (very) positive news:
My amazing colleague Tina Trinkaus will be Faculty Lead, Valuing the Clinician Teacher for Dept of Medicine
1. Go hematology
2. Great choice
3. Wonderful that we are recognizing Clinician Teachers
