In an effort to start writing again, my handsome partner @Jdpetersdotcom suggested I write 3 minutes a day. And post it on Twitter. And tell a complete story in 280 characters. No pressure. So here's to start of my Super Short Stories Series 🤷🏼♀️
The days slowly ticked away. Oh how the minutes rushed by, but it was the days that dragged on. Was it six or seven now? She lost track in the monotony, one day very much the same as the next. But she waited eagerly nonetheless for the day he'd walk back through the front door.
Elation roars inside her deafening as he approaches the door. Its been a typical day, but the sight of his face brings a smile to hers. She treasures the evening the most - they laugh, joke, and most importantly poke fun of each other. When together, the space feels like home.
It's hard to picture what comes after. And perhaps it's a waste of time. But is it really any different than a writer picturing what comes next in their make-believe realm? Weaving together the threads with endless curiosity? I can't imagine a better way to spend one's life.
Music blared from the speakers as the vibrations reverberated through their bones. The sweat from the beer bottles rolled down their hands waving above their heads. They sang along with every lyric as the band played late into the night. And it would be one they never forgot.
Buzzing jubilantly along, the bumblebee hopped from flower to flower. It had been a long stretch where a white blanket covered the colorful nectar. The hive was running on empty, and the little bee was happy to contribute. Bonus was smelling all the sweet flowers along the way!
The bunny sprinted ahead as his puppy paws hit the pavement in pursuit. He pictured grabbing the morsel in his jaws as his next warm meal. With the speed and grace of his ancestral wolf, he hunted. Twitching paws startled him awake from his slumber as he stretched on the couch.
Her grip began to falter over the plastic crimp. Every movement had to be precise and deliberate. She had projected this boulder for nearly a month and willed every muscle in her body to send it. But her hand failed, releasing the hold and grounding her back to Earth. Not today.
The fire glowed with its smoldering embers. The flames licked the air using the oxygen to fuel its life. The heat radiated to the small circle of friends huddled around it in their camp chairs. Laughing over fire kissed hot dogs and s'mores while the dusk quietly turned to night
The fog in her head grew thicker by the hour, settling like a blanket over her brain. Every thought and move took a millennia to register as she struggled to keep her eyes open. The afternoon slump struck with a vengeance today; the only coherent thought left was finding her bed.
The boat lunged through the roaring waves. They crashed on the unmanned deck with heinous deliberation. The unpredictability seemed to be controlled by a god-like force. A hand enclosed from above forcing the boat below the surface. Bath time was the little boy's favorite.
She tapped her pen impatiently on her desk trying to find the motivation to start the project. Instead, she flicked her phone on to check the rest of the world. To see where they were, what they were doing and the things they had. The shiny moments overwhelming the daily drudge.
Down the dark alley, the ill-fated man ran into a grotesque goblin. "The gift of luck in return for a favor?" croaked the goblin. "What favor?" asked the man. "You will know when the time comes." With little options, a deal was struck. One favor couldn't cost much, could it?
The dinosaur wore a beautiful dress as it pranced down the aisle to the robot. All the other toys watched with envy from their seats. As the little girl set the dinosaur down, she grinned with excitement. They would live happily ever after. Or until the next wedding was planned.
He had never seen stars shine so brightly as he gazed upward mournfully. A click sounded behind him followed by the cold muzzle pressed to his skull. What would have been different if he had made a few other choices in his life? The stars winked out and only darkness remained.
The minions clung to its sole using gravity to pull it free. Step by step, they multiplied and prevailed. She pivoted on one foot and pulled her boot free from the mud. In a succession of hops, she yanked the boot back on. Turning, she ran to the bus. She couldn't be late. Again.
