The quality of talent of Nigerian descent available in the field of Artificial Intelligence is quite inspiring and I was pleased to welcome our 120+ delegates coming from within and outside Nigeria yesterday as we kick off our National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Workshop. #NAIS #NigerianExcellence

- Built an ICT platform to support service delivery to over 30 million unique customers

- Built the world's first intelligent gaming robot

- A Winner of the Data Centre Personality of the Year - 2022 and Data Centre CTO of the Year by 6th Africa Digital Economy

- The Owner of 15 patents, who has authored 65 publications, and has been involved in the implementation of hundreds of innovative digital solutions across Africa, Asia, and the USA

- A Bill and Melinda Gates Grand Challenge Winner for using AI to solve a specific global problem

- Led the design of a FAIR digital data health infrastructure in Africa for COVID‐19 reporting and research

- An Assistant Professor at Stanford University and President of the Global Black in AI organization

- An expert endorsed as a ‘Global Exceptional Talent’ by The Royal Society and has published more than 95 research papers and more than 2200 citations in reputable journals and conference proceedings

- A Senior Research Fellow with Wits University, Atlantic Senior Fellow on Socio-Economic Equity at the London School of Economics, Former Head of Research at the South African Human Rights Commission and former Clinical Advocacy Fellow at Harvard Law School

- A Professor of Computer Science, with over 144 academic publications in information systems, databases, AI and information security

Yesterday, I was delighted to receive the delegation from Meta (formerly Facebook) on a courtesy visit to the House of Representatives. The delegation was led by the President of Meta Global Affairs and former Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Nick Clegg.

Our discussion centered around the dire need for a multifaceted approach to accelerate the growth of our digital economy in line with our goal to promote digital innovation, data protection, and e-commerce. With our young, teeming population, which represents a significant market for online businesses, we are open to strategic collaborations with major stakeholders in the digital innovation and commerce sector, such as Meta.

I assured the team that the 10th House of Representatives is dedicated to fostering an innovative and commerce-friendly regulatory environment as outlined in our legislative agenda, serving the interests of both technology companies and Nigerians.

It was a pleasure to host members of @Meta senior executive team led by Sir @nickclegg, President Global Affairs; Kojo Boakye, Vice President Public Policy, Africa, Middle East and Turkey; and Adaora Ikenze, Director of Public Policy, Anglophone West Africa at Meta earlier today.

We had extensive conversations on Artificial Intelligence, monetization opportunities for Nigerian businesses on Meta platforms, building resilience into global digital infrastructure among several other topics.

Meta has historically invested in critical technology and platforms that allows humanity create, engage and collaborate, so they are a significant partner in our efforts to provide opportunities for our citizens to leverage the benefits of the digital economy for shared economic prosperity

I also want to particularly commend Meta for their investment in the 2Africa submarine cable which, in the light of recent events, reiterates the value and importance of this relationship. I look forward to building on our partnership with them.
