President Barzani Receives Austrian Ambassador to Iraq

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, President Masoud Barzani received Austria’s new Ambassador to Iraq, Ambassador Axel Wesch, in Pirmam.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the political situation and recent developments in the region, including the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq and the challenges affecting the country’s stability. President Barzani reaffirmed his support for the Iraqi Prime Minister’s efforts to address outstanding issues, overcome challenges, and promote stability throughout Iraq.

President Barzani also highlighted the longstanding relations between the two sides and expressed his gratitude to the Austrian government and people for their solidarity with and support for the people of Kurdistan during the difficult years of the revolution.

The meeting also underscored the importance of strengthening relations between Austria and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the economic and tourism sectors.
