@DNCClimate released one of the boldest climate platforms out there - one which centers #ClimateJustice. Now it’s time for @TheDemocrats to make this plan a reality! So proud to have played a small part in this, and s/o to @MDeatrick and others who worked so hard on this 🌲☀️
Energy =/= environment =/= climate, and E&E has been an indispensable resource for coverage of all three. Really nasty stuff for Politico to shut it down after a messy acquisition and basically pretend those last 2 don't exist
The problem is that grid buildout raises near-term electricity costs before lowering them, and we NEED grid investment (some of it's already happened/baked in!), so we are making promises we can't keep.
This is such a bummer, E&E has long had some of best reporting in the field. I hope Politico doesn’t make the mistake of focusing on just energy, E&E is so much more than that
New: Politico is folding E&E, the energy trade publication it bought in 2020.
The company says it is reorganizing its energy coverage under the Politico brand and launching a series of new state and global energy newsletters.
@AndyMasley@jaeporeon California too. Anti BESS sentiment based on fire fears is making renewable deployment harder in ostensibly climate friendly places
@PeteSikora1@BilldeBlasio I hear that, I just think that the main roadblock is the governor and socialists in office will not be using their political capital to push her on climate
@AndyMasley I would add it’s not just about a site’s air pollution being above a certain limit, but also the cumulative emissions impacting a particular area (I.e., one project may be below air pollution limits but in aggregate exceeds acceptable amounts)
IRA lesson #7: Need to use reconciliation (Byrd Rule) limited policy options, and Congress punted much policy design to federal agencies. Very difficult to design+implement in <2.5 years. Could be even harder in future, given current gutting of fed agencies.
@drvolts Obviously the political/economic environment plays a huge role in this, but how much is a weakened NY climate movement to blame? Seems like things kind of fell apart after some groups split off from NY Renews to focus on BPRA
