Congratulations to Neil on getting this important book out. Subsidies continue to get in the way of the vital transition to net zero. I'm delighted to be working with @neilmcculloch64 at @thepolicypract1
We need to talk more about why we do what we do.

My thoughts on how @COP27 achieved some progress on #LossAndDamage but greenwashing corporations, petro-states, big emerging emitters appear to have won out https://t.co/TI5ueuR3E5

I've been following UK aid for a long time (>40 years) and the @commonsidc session with @FCDOGovUK Perm Sec yesterday (https://t.co/PURu5uJN3l) is about the most depressing I've come across. 0.5, lumps taken out for refugee 1st year costs. UK aid in crisis?

Wonderful to celebrate (23/4) the end (at least of this phase) of my 25 year career as a civil servant with brilliant, committed colleagues and a few surprise guests. It has been a privilege.
My parting messages for the challenges ahead:
1/8 (apologies for late post)
On these "staggering costs of net zero", a reminder the Climate Change Committee estimates £1,300bn of investment costs by 2050 across the entire economy, offset by £990bn of savings.
Net cost of £310bn over thirty years.
So: around £10bn a year, or 0.5% of GDP
📢 Fresh off the press!
