Parents with low emotional regulation - you need to improve. Parents who are prone to flying off the handle, yelling, and display petty anger issues are creating debilitating anxiety and stress in their children.
ON DISCIPLINE:
Discipline is acquired by practice. Practice is used to develop skills through trial & error. Encouragement, and not discouragement serves this journey. Shaming and/or negative reinforcement is counter-productive and threatens the parent/child bond necessary to achieve maturity.
Discipline and agency are close-coupled - you cannot built one without the other.
However, don't think that discipline means a capitulation to some authority - it's not. Agency is the opposite of that blind obedience.
Discipline is simply regular practice towards mastery.
“Dysfunctional families and distressed children go hand in hand, and there is now a growing body of science attempting to understand how early-life adversity translates into altered brain development and cognitive, emotional, and systemic disorders throughout the life course”

“Following the interests of the child” does not mean merely letting them do what they want and throw caution to the wind.
The parent curates, guides, and encourages children towards a master plan and the child chooses freely from the material. Oftentimes, material and topics are not part of the parent’s plan, but are adjacent - this is when the parent adjusts the master plan to include these elements as a connected part of the whole. That way, motivation and agency is not compromised.
We talk about this in our book.
The public school system is not only designed to dumb you down, but to train you to be obedient to the children of the rich and powerful - who receive a different education in how to operate as the future ruling class.
Nominal price is a lie because the dollar isn't fixed.
Divide any asset's price by M2.
That's the chart that matters.
Gold M2-adjusted: the 1980 peak was a real bubble.
The 2010 peak was a fair-value touch.
December 2022 to now is breaking out into bubble territory.
Housing M2-adjusted: 2004-2008 was a real bubble.
Today is cheaper than 2008.
Nasdaq M2-adjusted: today is dot-com 2000.
Apply this to anything.
The whole notion of adolescent rebellion dates from the 1950s. Rebel without a cause. Juvenile delinquents. Before that, young people worked. They milked cows, took care of business, were responsible. Adolescent dysfunction is closely tied to the history of mass public schooling.
“Consumers don't produce inflation. Producers don't produce inflation. Inflation is produced only by too much government spending and too much government creation of money, and nothing else.”
— Milton Friedman
If your child reads and writes for 5,000 to 10,000 hours before the age of 13, they're going to be more developed than a child who gets 1,000 to 2,000 hours in school and then goes home to watch screens. The math is simple. You can't really do enough reading and writing.
America celebrates mothers but does little to inspire young women to become mothers. That’s a mistake, because modern society's "girl boss" myth puts young women on the road to misery.
