People forget dogs are wildly dangerous. We don't fuck around when they do things that could kill a human or another dog. It's not an easy conversation to have, and you can "it's the owners" the behavior all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it has to be stopped.

This is a little misguided in that dominance theory was debunked long, long ago (as stated in the article), and actual good dog trainers have been leaning toward the methodology described for a while. Also, punishment is *extremely* nuanced when it comes to dog training.

Positive punishment -- adding something to reduce a behavior -- literally can just be the word "no." It's not always a totally aversive thing. Also, behaviors like biting with intent may need a form of punishment in the scientific sense to be extinguished safely and effectively.
