With fewer and fewer people reading every year, it’s urgent that you read daily. I don’t care why you do it: because it’s good for you, good for the world, because of the joy & renewal it brings. I just need you to read. Your life will be immeasurably richer if you read.
Those who decide to stop learning once they leave school puzzle me. I still don’t know half the things I’d like to know about folklore, word origins & the medieval calendar but I find that exciting. My lack of knowledge keeps me reading. You have to let your curiosity drive you.
If you just take 10 minutes each day to read something you enjoy, whether it’s a novel, magazine, article, comic book, etc, I promise it will have a positive impact on you.
Document your life in photographs and writing. Let there be markers clearly showing where the time went. Don’t take moments for granted because moments make up lifetimes. Love people and treat them with kindness. Be patient. Speak up. Rest. Take care of yourself.
Your local librarian here to say that it’s great if you read lots of books this year, alright if you read barely anything, that audiobooks, romance and graphic novels are all valid formats and genres, and that some authors suck but we’re still not stopping you from reading them.
"What a blessing it is to love books. Everyone should love something, and I know of no objects that provide such substantial and unfailing benefits as books."
Elizabeth Von Arnim
Just to say hello, 👋 with a little collage of snippets & details taken from a variety of my embroideries. Hope you are all doing well, and that it brightens your feed… 😉🪡🌿🌺✨#stitchedart#thesewingsongbird
For the child who often felt they didn't fit in, didn't belong, going to the library was like being welcomed into a world that was not only magical, but one that gave them a sense of connection.
“Why are folks getting dumber?” Because they don’t read. “Why aren’t men as romantic & poetic as they used to be?” Because they don’t read. “Why are people so vulnerable to propaganda?” “Why is everyone a conspiracy theorist?” Because they don’t read. Because they don’t read.
I’m ordering my next time period dress today and it’s a toss up between these two 1870s day dresses with bustles. Coordinated two piece ensembles like these were designed for street wear, errands, or travel and were very popular in the 1870s–1880s.

Tartan (yellow/blue) plaid or Victorian (blue/white) plaid?
