What is ACL Zama?

Zama’s FHE introduced ACL- Access control list, a crucial layer that manage who is allowed to access, decrypt, or interact with encrypted data on a FHE powered blockchain.

Because all data in FHEVM is encrypted under one global public key, Zama uses ACLs to prevent unauthorized access while keeping the network-fully composable

Why ACL Exists in Zama?

Under FHE everything from:
- Balance
- contract state
- user input
- dApp logic
All the things are fully encrypted.
But some operations (like revealing output, checking permission, or triggering MPC key share decryption) need strict control.
This is where ACLS come in.

What ACL Controls in Zama?

1. Who can decrypt encrypted results: - This prevents a malicious smart contract from pulling encrypted state it should not see.

2. Which contracts can view or access sensitive encrypted data: - This prevents a malicious smart contract from pulling encrypted state it should not see.

3. Permission boundaries for private smart contracts: - Developers can define:
- owners
- authorized readers
- restricted functions
- public vs private visibility modes

4. Security for Threshold Key Management: -
Zama splits the private key among multiple MPC nodes.

ACL enforces:
- who can trigger key-share operations
- who can finalize decryption
- who is allowed to access partial results

ACL in Zama is the rulebook that decide who can decrypt, access, or interact with the encrypted data-securing FHE powered by smart contracts, daap, and private on chain logic.
