My paper is out!! π
"Opponent control of reinforcement by striatal dopamine and serotonin", @Nature
Here, we show that dopamine and serotonin signals form a gas-brake system for reward in the mammalian brain π§

We are #FENS2024! Interested in 5-HT's role in development? From early studies in rodents to epigenetic modifications in humans, our ESRs are ready for the poster session this morningπ§
Meet Laura, Niccolo, Silvia, Marta and Gabriel at stands 18-21 and 37, respectively!
The neurodevelopmental brainstorm day is back! On Thursday we had our yearly lab retreat with reflections on how our projects are going and what our strengths are and an interesting Data Visualization Workshop on Raincloud plots held by @lcd_lab_donders.
Our last paper is out!! Great work by @AlonsoLucille1
check it out :)

On Monday we had our midterm meeting for @Serotonin_h2020 in Copenhagen! It was great to catch up on ESR's projects in the poster session. Plus, we had pleasure to hear about translational research in psychedelic research and attend a workshop on reproducibility in researchπ§
Yesterday it was our second practical for Medical Embryology! π Students observed the main external morphological changes during bird development in in vivo embryos from chicken eggs π£. Here is one of the preparations (a 36h post-fertilization embryo is depicted):
Last month, as part of @Serotonin_h2020 (MSCA-ITN) training, Laura Boreggio (@MDC_Berlin) teamed up with @SaminaFaria to conduct some behavioral experiments in the TPH2 deficient rat model. After a successful busy month, we are excited to continue to work closely togetherπ§
Our Medical Embryology course is starting! In the first practical, students will look at the main external and internal morphological changes during embryonic development in frogs πΈ(Xenopus laevis) and zebrafish π(Danio rerio).
Here are some pics of last year's preparationsπ:
Call Me Serotonin! Click the link below for a quick read on the history of my favorite molecule and importantly, what we know and don't know about serotonin in depression and anxiety. Congratulations Cameron! It's your week! @uclachem

Always nice to present my work within the Neurobiology community in Nijmegen π§
Thanks to all who attend it and for a very fruitful discussion afterwards!
It was a very busy, but rewarding day for @KolkLab βΊοΈ
A busy day last Thursday for our PhDs candidates, who presented their work at two different seminars within @DondersInst. Marta shared her most recent findings at the Molecular Neurobiology seminar, while Sara presented her latest results at the DCN seminar series. π§ π¬
