King Charles and Queen Camilla will be arriving in Samoa shortly. People here have spent the last 3 months decorating their villages in commonwealth colours 👑 🇼🇸
#Royalvisit ##CHOGM2024
It is unique that as host of this year’s #CHOGM, each Samoan Village has adopted one of the 56 countries of the Commonwealth and have adorned their communities with the colours and flags of the respective countries.
I was delighted to visit Malie, the village that has adopted Ghana. It was an incredible time engaging with the elders and people of Malie, and an opportunity to tell them more about Ghana.
As I witnessed in Samoa, high & rising sea levels are already causing severe damage to people in coastal communities in the Pacific region & other small island developing countries.
The world can no longer wait to take bold & resolute international #ClimateAction.
Injustice is having to suffer dire consequences of a crisis you did not cause.
If we do not commit to limiting 🌏 warming under 1.5C and enhancing climate finance, #climatechange impacts will worsen - for ALL countries.
The safety of our world depends on #climateaction NOW.
I was deeply moved by my meeting with coastal communities in Samoa forced to move their homes inland.
Sea levels are rising at a rate not seen in at least 3,000 years.
If we don’t reverse these climate change trends, we will see this tragedy in other coastal areas globally.
I thank Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa for welcoming me to Samoa.
This is the first stop in my visit to the Pacific Islands - a region that has demonstrated enormous resilience & leadership in the face of the climate crisis.
Samoa's leadership on the global stage and commitment to multilateralism is crucial for a resilient and inclusive future. The 🇺🇳 Secretary General @antonioguterres meeting with the Prime Minister of Samoa Hon. Fiame Naomi Mataafa shows solidarity in advancing shared priorities, from climate action to sustainable development, ensuring no one is left behind.
💲Trillions are needed to provide efficient, adequate flows of climate finance to those who need it most.
This is why we need developed countries to #StandForSIDS and commit to high ambition on an #NCQG that effectively addresses #Mitigation, #Adaptation, and #LossAndDamage.
The ava ceremony hosted by the @samoagovt to honor the arrival of the 🇺🇳Secretary General @antonioguterres is an important moment of his life.
Drinking the ava, he pays tribute to the history, culture, traditions and people of Samoa.
The ava ceremony preceded his visit to #climatechange impacted communities.
His Excellency @antonioguterres , UN🇺🇳 Secretary-General is visiting Samoa🇼🇸 for the first time as part of his visit to the Pacific ahead of the PIF Leaders meeting in Tonga🇹🇴 from 26-30 August 2024.

A steadfast partner in our journey toward a sustainable future!
Welcome to Samoa, Excellency @antonioguterres
Today, #climatechange country heads are gathered for the #COP29 Heads of Delegation retreat.
We are less than four months away from the critical global climate change conference.
Are developed countries and leading economies living up to their commitments on #climateaction?
At @COP29_AZ HODs mtg, @AOSISChair urged amplified action ahead of #COP29.
Particularly, we look forward to enhanced collaboration as we work towards a fit-for-purpose #NCQG New Collective Quantified Goal on #climatefinance, to truly power the potential of the #ParisAgreement.
