While in Shire (#Tigray), I saw IDPs including children on the literal verge of death due to lack of food & medicine.
I wasn’t able to visit areas occupied by Eritrean forces but am aware their “living” conditions are only worse.
No teacher should have to choose between serving their community and meeting their basic needs.
The teachers of #Tigray deserve not only our gratitude, but also the support, recognition, and compensation that reflect the invaluable role they play in shaping the future ❤️✨.
and to the teachers of #Tigray, many of whom have continued teaching without receiving their salaries:
While your resilience and sacrifice deserve our deepest respect, they should never be treated as a substitute for fair compensation and dignified working conditions.
Congratulations to all the students of #Tigray who, against all odds, have graduated this year — whether from kindergarten, high school, or university.
Your resilience, determination, and perseverance are nothing short of extraordinary.
and to the 1.2 million children (nearly 50% of #Tigray’s school-age population) that were left completely out of school & robbed of that opportunity: we remain committed to working day & night to ensure that, in the coming year, you all get this same opportunity.
Congratulations to all the students of #Tigray who, against all odds, have graduated this year — whether from kindergarten, high school, or university.
Your resilience, determination, and perseverance are nothing short of extraordinary.
What kind of election in #Ethiopia will this be with #Tigray and parts of #Amhara excluded - and built on national divisiveness fostered by their own rulers that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives. Via @CNN https://t.co/7CdCUUrOWH
Don't say "genocide," we're told.
It’s too harsh, too political, too difficult to print.
Choose a gentler, safer word. Like “crisis” or “conflict.” Leave enough room for people to look away.
As though the crime itself is less disturbing than the syllables used to describe it.
Idk how to say this but #Ethiopia has become a better country for people coming from abroad for a month tops..... not for the people actually working and living in it
crazy how much things have changed in just the past 5 years 📉
I argue that the current situation in Western Tigray, but also in broader Tigray is nothing, but an extension of the war and siege that started in late 2020.

For decades, Tigray, Ethiopia has endured violent oppression by the Ethiopian federal authority. Siege, starvation, and most recently (2020–2023) an active genocide the world chose to look away from. Its people keep rebuilding. https://t.co/K1nZaiTiK0
#Tigray: Fighter jet seen over Mekelle for second time this week amid rising tensions
A fighter jet was seen flying over the city of Mekelle on Wednesday at around 11:37 a.m. local time, residents said, marking the second reported overflight of the city within the same week.
If our energy is focused more on making personal attacks than actually serving the people who are in imminent danger in #Tigray, then at this point, we’re just rearranging furniture on the Titanic.
What will all these petty blows against X or Y accomplish?
“Samri did you hear the fighter jet?”
Me: ohh… is THAT what that was?
“Yes, I can never forget the sound of it”
My heart hurts for our people- they are beyond traumatized ❤️🩹
May God guide & protect us through whatever is next 🙏🏽. #Tigray

This is how you get away with genocide. Both perpetrators, Ethiopia and Eritrean regimes, have now been set free of responsibilities of exterminating close to a million Tigrayans in exchange for short term geopolitical gains by powerful actors EU & USA.
