Experts at @WorldResources think:
- new draft deal likely in early hours of Saturday
- US might have to concede, and back creation of a loss and damage fund
- Other sticking point is whether China will pay into that fund
“It’s not enough to stand still in the face of a rising tide, and if this text is agreed in its current form it will fail to bring justice for those suffering the worst effects of the #ClimateCrisis” - @Tearfund response to #COP27 draft text on the @guardian
What's amazing with young activists at #COP27 is the depth of field. @Tearfund added two powerful voices to the mix - Jessica Bwali from Zambia 🇿🇲 & @LessWasteLaura from Scotland 🏴 https://t.co/op87GJG82E
In NE Nigeria "we installed solar power in a local clinic which had not had a power connection for 3 years and relied on generators; the clinic are grateful and we now have 10 young people trained to install solar power. For me, that is huge."
Speaking now at #COP27 Promise Salawu from @Tearfund on why we need a massive shift of public money from fossil fuels to renewable energy 🌿https://t.co/PvT2qpFWJZ
Promise Salawu: "We need to move from small scale to large scale clean energy systems. But most companies do not have the finance, so the climate finance we have been promised is critical."
"I don't know what a “pledge” means to these leaders. But I know what it means to me. Making a pledge means taking care of your responsibilities'. @vanessa_vash @TearfundAct@PriceofOil#COP27
For someone who works in climate and media, this feels like a significant moment of global unity, even I'd like that list of papers to be much longer and include more UK names than @guardian and @DailyMirror#COP27
The Guardian has today joined 30 other newspapers around the world in publishing this joint editorial calling for a climate tax to be imposed on fossil fuel giants

Fossil fuel industry representatives at #COP27 are pushing a false narrative that exploiting polluting oil and gas across Africa will improve the lives of African people. ❌But the science is clear: there is no room for fossil fuels in a safer, fairer future.
Veteran British-Bangladeshi climate expert @SaleemulHuq at his 27th COP:
“I call this COP1 of the new era of loss and damage. Previous COPs spoke of what WILL happen. This COP is about what HAS happened.”#COP27
Well done to @LessWasteLaura for doing an impression of a Futurama talking head on BBC Debate Night - but also for fighting her corner on #ClimateFinance and a sustainable future #COP27@Tearfund
