The Czech Turtle Doves tagged this year show two main migratory directions: one via Italy and one via the Balkans. Now they are in Africa where there is no LTE-M network. We hope to hear from them again when they are back in spring! 🕊️ | #HABITRACK#ornithology#birdmigration
🚀 Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity! The Swiss Ornithological Institute is looking for a Research Associate in Bird Migration Biology. 🦅 If you haven’t applied yet, there’s still time. Check out the details: https://t.co/GInaisc4me

We also thank the senior nature protection inspector for his quick reactions and efforts to protect the colonies on the gravel pits. In the last 2 years, in cooperation with the senior inspector, work was stopped until the end of the breeding season on several colonies! 🥳🥳🥳
At the end of June, we organized the ringing of Sand Martins on two gravel pits in Podravina. In two days, 436 individuals were caught, of which 4 were adult females ringed a year ago on the colony 6.5 km away. Very nice experiences, thanks to all the helpers!🙂
Today, we successfully ringed a large family of mute swans in Podravina (2 out of 8 chicks completely white)! Many thanks to Dražen for the invitation, and to all the helpers and swans for their (very calm) cooperation! 🤗ℹ️The birds were released unharmed at the ringing site.
Exciting news for European Turtle-Doves! 🕊️
This species, once synonymous with “worrying decline” is showing the first signs of recovery on the western flyway!
Thanks to efforts like the zero-take policy implemented in France, Spain, Portugal, and parts of Italy, we're seeing the highest population numbers since 2011. According to the Pan European Common Birds Monitoring Scheme’s population data, the 10-year population trend has improved from "moderate decline" to "stable”, highlighting the positive impact of the hunting ban.
Sadly, it's a different story for the central-eastern flyway, where countries like Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Malta, and Cyprus are still to commit to the recommendation for zero-take and the recovery of the species.
We are grateful that the European Commission is committed to restoring threatened species. Together with our Partners, we remain dedicated to achieving the full recovery of the species.💚
