Fresh on @arxiv 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Blinding in cosmology is especially challenging: unlike particle physics, our signal is statistical, subtle, and extracted through a long inference chain.
Excited to share the official LSST DESC tool for blind analyses:

@TheOmniLiberal "God says" doesn’t settle moral questions. When people attribute commands to God, the issue becomes which conception of God is coherent. That means looking at the whole body of moral judgments attributed to that god and asking whether they form a consistent moral pattern.
@bcubeddd On a related note, I find it very telling when people use terms like 'physicists' or 'mathematicians' as if these groups were homogeneous blobs. In my experience, they’re so diverse that such labels are nearly meaningless, though, alas, they do make for good clickbait.

@realism_fan Even if they explain the mean temperature and its isotropy (which they don’t, at least not in that paper), there’s still a long way to go. Claiming “1.4% up to the *full*” only highlights how unconstrained their predictions really are.

@skdh Unfortunately, this is another example of the drama-driven science communication (DDSC?) so popular today. New data arrive, models evolve. In this case, there's still a long way to go: they need to explain isotropy and match perturbations as precisely as current models.

@dudelbem@ODevLibertario Não é só que lucram com sensacionalismo, elas otimizam algoritmos para prender atenção a qualquer custo, mesmo que isso envolva desinformação, discurso de ódio ou teorias conspiratórias.
@star_stufff I prefer the Clifford Algebra formulation: ∂F = J, it's compact, and since ∂ is invertible, we can solve it formally without introducing the potential.
AutoKnots addresses this by adapting the knot distribution to the function being interpolated, subject to a specified tolerance.
This reduces manual tuning and improves robustness, portability, and reproducibility of numerical pipelines.
Our paper on AutoKnots has just been published.
It presents a method for automatically selecting knots based on a user-defined interpolation error tolerance.
The algorithm is available in:

Spline interpolation is widely used in numerical cosmology. Tools such as CAMB, CLASS, CCL, and CLMM often require users to configure multiple parameters related to knot placement, typically through trial and error.

@getjonwithit Saying “just mathematical abstractions” risks sounding dismissive. Abstractions emerge from repeated observations, they are distilled patterns, not arbitrary inventions. We can probe how dependent our theories are on imposed structures, which leads to frameworks like GR.
Eye to the sky…on-sky engineering tests have begun at @NSF–@doescience Rubin Observatory with the world’s largest camera!
After installing & testing the LSST Camera, we turned the telescope to the sky—a moment 20 years in the making!
