New paper out w/ Cory Walter & @DrErinnMuller! In "Fine Scale Temporal and Spatial Dynamics of the Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease Outbreak Within the Lower Florida Keys," we determined key characteristics of #SCTLD needed for management and modeling. https://t.co/bd5FHq1RNs
Ever wonder about coral larval settlement? Microbial biofilms?
Sprinkle in a little network analysis and I got a new paper for you 🪸🧬

New pub out today led by @Aquanaut1957 on some of our past outreach & education work @NUMarSci! … I never thought I’d be dressed as a coral polyp in an article figure… Cosplay as a Novel Method for Outreach in Ocean Science: https://t.co/gudECkEL59
CNWW is back at the Monastery Dec 17-22 2023!
#CNWW23 is a celebration with no participation fees for selected participants as we blur the lines between faculty and the new generation of network scientists.

Last week, the summer intern program wrapped up and we had a great end-of-summer poster session. From learning new photophysiology methods to practicing their science communication, our three CHaD lab undergraduate researchers did some awesome work!
If I ever make it out of TPA today, come see my talk at 10:15 am Thursday at #ESA2023! I'll be presenting on a trait-space model that incorporates coral immune traits to predict reef community composition after a disease outbreak.
Who’s going to ESA next week? I’m excited to go to a new conference this year! … It’s also my first conference not going with anyone from my lab/institution, so I’m looking forward to meeting people.
Check out these recent USGS photos showing coral in the Florida Keys and @DryTortugasNPS in the Gulf of Mexico experiencing coral bleaching caused by abnormally high water temperatures being fueled by worldwide heat waves and El Nino. Learn more: https://t.co/SjAOzOR9RQ
101 F is 38 degrees C. The coral pathogen we work on (Vibrio coralliilyticus) will die at that temperature. Let that sink in. This is beyond "just a hot summer"

If anybody asks what does coral bleaching look like ? - show them this. These two pictures were taken only 8 days apart.
Thank you @CoralCityCamera and @CoralMorph
And it’s still only July

Alright, I’m trying this threads thing. You can follow me @ seasarascience on there (which is also my science instagram) but I’ll also keep this bird app for now, not that I’ve been super active on it lately 🤷♀️
Prospective students looking for labs in Fall 2024 - watch this sheet for a list of PIs who are recruiting but be sure to do your due diligence in vetting the PI/lab/program! https://t.co/u4PY5cQ4en
👀👀"Here we provide guidelines for ecological researchers when writing statistical methods and review frequent errors made in Statistical Methods sections. We highlight some common dos and don’ts".
Looks like a very useful paper!
