Supportive housing project halted by the city bc there isn't enough parking
Residents are low-income & few have cars
This NONPROFIT builder is forced to offer the city $250K for 'Payment in Lieu' of parking to get the project moving again
It's parking over ppl in #Mississauga
@MikePMoffatt People in power don’t want to acknowledge it because it would mean giving up some of the privileges they’ve gained as a result of the current system. Privileges they feel they’ve fairly earned, when really it’s been at the expense of young and marginalized people
Happy Mississauga Votes day! This is imp. because a) Mississauga is the 3rd largest city in Ontario (6th in Canada) and b) this is the city's 3rd new mayor in 50 years (that's how old the city is) because of the reign of Hazel McCallion

I spent months last fall asking anyone who would take my call how we got into the housing crisis and what it would look like if we actually dug our way out. https://t.co/akmCp4NEzp
If you are on the left and think you can solve housing without private developers you are not serious about solving housing.
If you are on the right and think you can solve housing without massive new public investments you are not serious about solving housing.
@DipikaDamerla Why not for everyone who lives in Mississauga? Even if you don’t directly pay property tax (all residents do indirectly anyway), every resident’s opinion still matters on how the city is run
@QueensParkToday I love when my two interests intersect 🤣 Sonja would have a field day if someone called Patchogue the Hamptons— not to mention Muskoka is much pricier…
It’s clear there’s an identity crisis playing out among property owners who do not understand—or refuse to accept—that their assets confer upon them a status that makes Canadians squirm: rich. @michellecyca explores:

@svershbow Haven’t started the show but will just pretend it is a Lagotto Romagnolo 🫣 (commonly mistaken for doodles and the owners will be *certain* to correct you!)
BREAKING: #Mississauga Mayor @BonnieCrombie will use her strong-mayor powers to override council's vote last week that ended with a motion supporting 4-plexes failing to pass. Wording of the override below. She tells me she has spoken with @SeanFraserMP.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis wrote letters in support of Danny Masterson, who ended up being sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women.
Ashton reportedly called him a ‘role model’ while Mila commented on his ‘exceptional character.’
@ramit The number of replies recommending using the equity and buying a place to rent out is staggering. They assume that the average person can be a landlord, let alone manage the financial details for it to be profitable… both require a high level of expertise IMO
