@meganmreece I agree! It was reassuring that we can share power with our students and increase the learning of the students as well as their respect for themselves and others. #ImpactLearningKS
We have learned so much since the start of this course! Learning about these different effect sizes in the classroom has been beneficial for my teaching and for my students! #ImpactLearningKS
Started first week of my Advanced Instructional Methods course learning about John Hattie's Visible Learning and the different influences that IMPACT student achievement. Excited to build on student discussions in my SFA reading group this week! #ImpactLearningKS
There are many components to what makes a classroom successful. Focusing on the components with the biggest effect size is important in creating a successful classroom. John Hattie has done the research to discover what has the most impact in creating a successful classroom!
My Advanced Instructional Methods students are learning about the Visible Learning research from John Hattie this week. I look forward to seeing how their new learning will impact Kansas students! #ImpactLearningKS
Absolutely. I always make sure my students are in a respected and safe learning environment. Each of us shapes the emotions of those we touch.Part of teaching is recognizing that! #ImpactLearningKS
Jim Knight mentions, "Emotions are Infectious". Students deserve our best instruction and emotions. Each day is a new day and I will make sure my students are in a respected and safe learning environment. #ImpactLearningKS
“If we have genuine empathy for our students & see our classroom through their eyes, we move closer to power that is used to unleash students’ potential.” Teachers can increase power by empathizing, connecting, respecting, and listening to their students! #ImpactLearningKS
Our book study on "High Impact Instruction" by Jim Knight continues this week in Advanced Instructional Methods as we read and discuss chapters 10-15. When my students read something that impacts their classroom practices, they will retweet this and share it! #ImpactLearningKS
I learned so much in this course and all of the info was very helpful in making my teaching stronger. Feedback I think was the most beneficial to learn about. There is huge power in feedback!Finding out what type of feedback works best with each student is key! #ImpactLearningKS
For our seventh week of Advanced Instructional Methods, students will reply to this tweet with their final reflections on the learning in our class. The students this fall have been nothing short of amazing! #ImpactLearningKS

I totally agree with you! Every effect size that we covered in class has helped me become a stronger educator. I want to continue to improve these and continue to create ACVL! Great semester! #ImpactLearningKS
My biggest take away & implementation from this course relates to Teacher Clarity; establishing learning intentions along with clear success criteria! My goal is to continue to improve each piece we studied & bring my instruction full circle to create ACVL! #ImpactLearningKS
AGREED! Since being in this class I have been making sure my students know where they are going, how we are going to get there, and using feedback to discuss progress and success! Seeing the growth and change being made is a great sight to see! #ImpactLearningKS
ACVL has the highest effect size for student success. We as teachers must provide our students with tools and strategies to be successful. We want to see our students self-monitor and make connections with their learning! #ImpactLearningKS
During our sixth week of Advanced Instructional Methods, we will be learning about how to develop assessment-capable visible learners, which empowers Ss to become their own teachers & more than triples the speed of learning (Effect Size = 1.33). Follow along at #ImpactLearningKS
Agreed! Schools and districts need to focus on what resources are going to have the highest impact on student achievement! I think teachers get so involved in learning & implementing the newest & greatest resources that they lose focus of what really matters! #ImpactLearningKS
Many districts implement the "newest, hottest" methods without exploring into the research about the effectiveness of the curriculum, etc. We need to have the educational backing and know more about the benefits. #ImpactLearningKS
It is crazy how much money is spent each year on ineffective resources that do not benefit toward closing the educational achievement gap. As teachers, we have to focus on what resources are going to have the highest impact on student achievement. #ImpactLearningKS
In our fifth week of Advanced Instructional Methods, my Ss will be exploring if we are "fooling ourselves" as educators. We will study "Education Cargo Cults Must Die" by Hattie & Hamilton. Follow along at #ImpactLearningKS. Read the white paper here:

Agreed! After reading this chapter l reflected on my questioning a lot more throughout my instruction. Certain questions and advice can kill students’ thinking. #ImpactLearningKS
Within these chapters I learned about effective questioning with students. I learned when to use right or wrong type of questions and when to use opinion based questions. #ImpactLearningKS
Cooperative learning allows students to collaboratively construct knowledge and develops students' communication skills. Cooperative learning prepares students for life after school and their future! #ImpactLearningKS

@hpeine Take the time to get to know your kids outside of school. Being engaged in your student’s personal lives builds a strong relationship where they feel comfortable with you and want to be engaged in your classroom. This kiddo is proof!! #ImpactLearningKS
So true! Students can tell when their teachers aren’t enjoying their job or are not giving their best effort! Relationships are key!! #ImpactLearningKS
I learned that when students are engaged they have the sense of self worth in school ! This is so impactful and important because if teachers don’t care then neither do the students! Build those relationships and believe in them! #ImpactLearningKS
