@LindaSlusser@hpeine That is such a good quote! Providing students with appropriate choices when it comes to their education helps with student autonomy and success.
Learning prompts are strategies teachers use to get their students interested in a unit or topic. Students prefer visual learning prompts. #ImpactLearningKS
Our book study on "High Impact Instruction" by
@jimknight99 continues this week in my Advanced Instructional Methods class as we explore chapters 5-9. When my students read something that impacts their classroom practices, they will retweet this and share! #ImpactLearningKS
Many of Hattie's strategies are easy to implement into the classroom. Focus on the strategies that are PROVEN to work and those are the strategies with high effect sizes. Don't leave out the strategies with lower effect sizes. Strive to create ACL's. #ImpactLearningKS
For our seventh week of Advanced Instructional Methods, students will reply to this tweet with their final reflections on the learning in our class. The students this fall have been nothing short of amazing! #ImpactLearningKS
Strive to have 5 positives to 1 negative interactions with students. Taking a video of your interactions with students can open your eyes to how you deal with misbehavior. #ImpactLearningKS
Our book study on "High Impact Instruction" by Jim Knight continues this week in Advanced Instructional Methods as we read and discuss chapters 10-15. When my students read something that impacts their classroom practices, they will retweet this and share it! #ImpactLearningKS
If all teachers were able to create Assessment Capable Visible Learners would there still be an achievement gap? A school that Frey and Fisher created is high poverty but 94% of students are college or career ready by graduation. This school create ACL's.

During our sixth week of Advanced Instructional Methods, we will be learning about how to develop assessment-capable visible learners, which empowers Ss to become their own teachers & more than triples the speed of learning (Effect Size = 1.33). Follow along at #ImpactLearningKS
@MelissaGillenw4@hpeine It's sweet to see everything that we've learned so far all combined together is what creates an Assessment Capable Visible Learner.
Cargo Cults are companies that create and sell curriculum which has no proof of positive impact on student learning. Teachers need to overcome biases and focus on what DOES work. #ImpactLearningKS
In our fifth week of Advanced Instructional Methods, my Ss will be exploring if we are "fooling ourselves" as educators. We will study "Education Cargo Cults Must Die" by Hattie & Hamilton. Follow along at #ImpactLearningKS. Read the white paper here:

@ksoeken1@hpeine This is a very true and upsetting fact for educators and students. Spending money on curriculum that doesn't show proof of student learning is a waste of money and time. School districts and administrators should focus on what does work instead of the new and shiny objects.
@SarahDivine15@hpeine That is so true!! If a teacher enjoys their job they become an intentional inviting teacher which produces engaged students. #ImpactLearningKS
For our fourth week of Advanced Instructional Methods, my students will be learning about student engagement. Student engagement involves students being authentically engaged, which is more than students being compliant. Follow along at #ImpactLearningKS
@WeakleyJessica@hpeine Teacher clarity and feedback have similar goals. Keep the students on a clear path to learning and remind them of success criteria and help them get there with positive feedback. #ImpactLearningKS
Feedback has an effect size of 0.66 and is one of the easiest and most effective methods to incorporate into your classroom. Whether students are at task or self regulation level they need feedback. #ImpactLearningKS
During our third week of Advanced Instructional Methods, my students will be learning about feedback. Feedback has an effect size of .66 and may be "the most underutilized instructional approach teachers have at their disposal" (Fisher, Frey & Hattie 2018). #ImpactLearningKS.
@ksoeken1@hpeine Out of the personal bests chapter I liked how they stress the importance of instructional coaches. I'm going to start collaborating with my coaches to help me create assessments! #ImpactLearningKS
I am going to use a learning map when we get into our Healthy Eating unit. Calories could be the main idea with subtopics being high calorie, low calorie, 0 calorie. The map will be blank for students to add their own text and pictures. #ImpactLearningKS

Week 2: Teacher Clarity: We learned about teacher clarity. We learned about teacher clarity because it has a 0.75 effect size and helps develop Assessment Capable Visible Learners. I have been successful when I know why students know WHAT they're learning. #ImpactLearningKS
During our second week of Advanced Instructional Methods, my students will be learning about teacher clarity. Teacher clarity has an effect size of .75, nearly double the average! Follow along as we learn together at #ImpactLearningKS.
