I’m dipping my toe tentatively back into tech conferences today. I am at the @TheLeadDev west coast conference in Oakland. I’d love to meet up if you’re here too!
Hi everyone! I have moved. I am now @[email protected] in the Mastodon ecosystem.
Twitter has been such a trash fire since the takeover. The remarkable thing, though, is how it continues to get worse. On purpose!!
I’m done.
I think what I find funniest are the software bros who think space karen is doing JUST GREAT - and now want to work at Twitter.
They think everyone still there is HARDCORE and they are also HARDCORE and they want to go and CRUSH CODE together
@alandail He could treat SpaceX employees like shit because where are they going to go - defense? Morally abhorrent. NASA? Government pay scale.
Software engineers have endless options, even in this time of layoffs. The companies that didn’t stupidly overhire are doing great.
@alandail It’s not going to work 🤣 He only pulled it off at his other companies because his key employees there - mostly hardware engineers - have relatively few options for work.
@alandail That’s exactly the problem. Musk is 100% out of his league here - he’s trying to run a software & community company as though it’s a hardware company.
@alandail There are sometimes ways for employees to monetize their options before an exit event, but that all depends on the valuation of the company going sharply up.
@alandail A) 0.000001% is not enough reward for people literally giving their whole lives to the person who gets the 99%
B) Regardless of the amount - have you ever gotten stock _options_ in a private company? Not stock - stock options. Verrrry different, and usually worthless.
Important note on downloading your Twitter data: All the images are still hosted on Twitter, and everything's in messy JSON. I used this Twitter Archive Parser to convert everything to Markdown and downloads full size images, in case Twitter goes down:

And I don’t mean the 0.000001% equity a great employee gets. That’s bullshit. I’m talking 30-50%
And then you can hire HARDCORE but NOT TOO BRIGHT folks, like former you, & give them 0.000001% of your company & make them be as HARDCORE as you.
It’s the capitalist circle of life
