Chicago’s Jewish community has long been advocating for stronger action to combat antisemitism in the city, particularly on college campuses and within @ChiPubSchools.
It is well past time for the concerns and reports from Jewish students and parents to be taken seriously—and, more importantly, for tangible action to be taken to counter antisemitism in our city.
AJC Chicago stands ready to partner and offer our proven, nonpartisan educational resources to combat this insidious form of hate.

It is with deep gratitude that we convene for the second year in a row at Ashiana Banquet Hall in Chicago, marking a significant milestone in fostering dialogue and collaboration with local communities for the promotion of Hindu, Sikh, and Jewish unity. This gathering reflects our shared commitment to promoting peace, harmony, and brotherhood across communities, as well as strengthening the vital relationship between India and the United States.
We are honored by the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Somnath Ghosh, IFS, Consul General of India, Chicago, whose participation as our Chief Guest underscores the importance of these efforts.
A special thanks to Dr. Bharat Barai for his insightful address, which greatly enriched the event. We also extend our appreciation to the leadership of the Jewish community, led by Sarah Van Loon, Regional Director of AJC Chicago, for their active participation.
Our gratitude goes to the leaders of the American4Hindu Caucus for their presence and contributions, as well as to the local Punjabi and Sikh business and community leaders of the Chicago area for their unwavering support.
We look forward to sharing video coverage of this meaningful event soon.

On Saturday, a 39-year-old Jewish man was shot and critically injured in Chicago on his way to synagogue.
Today, the suspect faces 14 felony charges, including 6 counts of attempted murder. According to @Chicago_Police, they are investigating whether this attack will also be charged as a hate crime.
As we monitor this deeply troubling case, we are relieved to hear the victim is recovering and thank law enforcement for its swift and thorough response.

Vanity license plates that celebrate the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust are abhorrent. @Giannoulias did the right thing removing these license plates from Illinois roads. Thank you, @ILSecOfState for your moral clarity and leadership.

Always proud to represent AJC, and particularly proud to be represented by @AJCCEO. Listen to Ted’s powerful remarks from the National Vigil for the Hostages tonight.
This evening at the National Vigil for the Hostages, @AJCCEO Ted Deutch joined Jewish community members and leaders in Washington, D.C., to honor the lives of the hostages ruthlessly murdered while in Hamas captivity.
Before introducing @SecondGentleman Douglas Emhoff, Ted expressed the deep frustration within the Jewish community over the world's silence. At a time when global voices rally for justice, there has been a striking lack of condemnation for the brutal murder of innocent civilians by terrorists.
Amidst our grief and anger, we cling to hope, praying for the immediate and safe return of the remaining hostages, and urging leaders to take swift, decisive action before it’s too late.
Wrapped in grief, our hearts are broken for the families of Carmel Gat, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Almog Sarusi, Alex Lobanov and Ori Danino.
They were stolen, held in brutal conditions and murdered, most likely in the last few days by Hamas terrorists in a tunnel beneath the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
For 330 days, their families fought tirelessly for their release, holding onto hope for a reunion with their loved ones.
There are now 101 hostages still in Gaza.
Everyone with a voice, from individuals to nations, must urgently insist on a deal to #BringThemHomeNow.
Shame on @ChicagosMayor. Where is your call for the release of hostages? Where is your condemnation of Hamas & their use of mass rape & torture as weapons of war? A former social studies teacher should know that Hamas is the only genocidal actor in this war. #BringThemHomeNow 🎗️
AJC, @ADL, @AIPAC, @Conf_of_Pres, and @JFederations collectively call on Congress to pass vital assistance for Israel.
After the unprecedented Iranian attack, U.S. aid to Israel is more critical than ever.
The time to support our ally Israel is now.
Read our joint letter:
Praying for Israel.
Standing with the Israeli people.
Grateful for strong U.S. support.
Defiant in the face of Iranian terror and aggression.
Am Yisrael Chai!

Proud to join @JUFChicago and my fellow Jewish communal leaders in expressing to @ChicagosMayor why his vote and politicking was so painful last week. We should be working together to find unity and peace - here in Chicago, in the Middle East, and around the world.
AJC joined with @JUFChicago and other Jewish organizations to send a letter addressing @ChicagosMayor over his tie-breaking vote on Chicago's ceasefire resolution.
Calling for an unconditional ceasefire, without the dismantling of Hamas and safe return of all the hostages, benefits terrorists.
We are moved that the #GRAMMYs recognized the victims of 10/7, including the 364 victims and 40 hostages from the Nova festival massacre — the deadliest tragedy in music history.
Thank you to the recording academy and Harvey Mason Jr. for recognizing the importance of doing so and demonstrating the universality of music.
Disappointed, but not surprised, by the one-sided attack against Israel in Human Relations committee today. The City Council should demand the release of the hostages, condemn the violence and rape perpetrated against Israeli citizens, and call for the dissolution of Hamas.
Since October 7th, the world has been haunted by the faces of the hundreds of innocent human beings taken hostage by Hamas.
We cannot—and I will not—lose sight of the suffering of their families.
Read my full statement below:
We are horrified by and utterly condemn the murder of a child and stabbing of his mother for being Muslim.
We call on @plainfieldPD to investigate and prosecute this case as a hate crime and with all the necessary resources.
