Rates are rising. The S&P is still being bought. The Russell 2000 has been the weak index for days.
That sequence has shown up before.
2018: yields up, large caps held into the fall, small caps rolled first, then the market gave way.
2000: the averages hid the damage while smaller stocks were already fading.
1994: same rate pressure, small caps lagged, the S&P did not break. Policy paused.
So this is not a call that a top is locked in. It is the risk that RUT is the canary while the index still looks fine.
If rates keep climbing, that is the path to watch.
