Mr. Vijay Sethupathi, @VijaySethuOffl before questioning someone else’s leadership, maybe ask yourself one simple question.. who are you to pass that judgment? What leadership qualities you have demonstrated?

This isn’t a Bigg Boss task where someone sits in a coat and coolers, plays a “leader” for an episode and suddenly becomes an expert on leadership.

You are talking about someone who spent more than 30 years earning people’s love, over 20 years trying to give something back through public service, turning a fan base into a people’s movement and eventually building that movement into a political force.

He entered electoral politics without the backing of established political parties. He faced political opposition, difficulties in reaching people, permissions being denied, relentless personal attacks and a huge money and power machinery. Yet he stood before the people and sought their mandate.

You asked, “Do you know what leadership is?”

What is your contribution to this society on various social issues? What exactly gives you the authority to sit in judgment of someone else’s political leadership?

You said, “Making promises and running away when responsibility comes is not leadership.”

But does that standard apply equally to everyone?

Have all the promises made by the political parties that ruled Tamil Nadu for decades been fulfilled immediately? Even the much publicized ₹1,000 women’s entitlement promise took more than 2.5 years to actually reach implementation.

So how does a government that has been in power for barely a few months suddenly become a government that has “run away from its promises”?

You seem to have a stopwatch for three months. Where was that stopwatch during decades of your preferred party’s governance?

And one more thing..running a government is not a Bigg Boss task that has to be completed before the next episode.

There are finances to manage, existing liabilities to deal with, revenue to generate, expenditure to control, an administration to run and several inherited problems to address..all while trying to deliver on electoral promises.

So before saying someone has “run away” from responsibility, perhaps the more important question is:

Where exactly did they run? When it is just 4 months of forming this new government.

And the biggest irony is this.

Someone who could have comfortably continued his life at the peak of his cinema career chose to enter public life instead. He knew very well what would come with it..personal attacks, humiliation, political hostility, pressure and constant scrutiny.

He didn’t have to choose politics.

He chose it because he believed he owed something to the people who had given him everything.

You absolutely have the right to disagree with his politics. You have every right to question his policies, decisions and performance.

But questioning the commitment of someone who has chosen public life over personal comfort requires more than a microphone, a television show and a few minutes of prime-time airtime.

Please don’t mistake a television platform for political authority.

Leadership is ultimately judged by the people. Not by a Bigg Boss segment. @vijaytelevision
