A student-led account to protest the proposed redundancies at University of Chester.
Tweets do not reflect or represent the Head of Department's opinion.
This account was created to 1) protest the inclusion of Professor @EMMAREES on the University's list of possible redundancies; 2) show support for Emma and her work; and 3) demonstrate the research & activism of our department. Please, no personal attacks or hateful content.
We MUST NOT FORGET that there are still staff at risk of redundancy at the University of Chester.
Not only is this is cruel and unnecessary, but it indicates a senior management prepared to violate their duty of care.
THIS MUST STOP.
Take a stand.

Who are YOU bringing to the @ChesterUcu#reclaimouruniversity rally this Saturday?!
We need *everybody*!
Mums, dads, dogs, nans, other nans, cousins-once-removed and your local yoga group.
EVERYBODY.
The #reclaimouruniversity rally.
(Be there, or you're ... er ... nobody.)
Cutting funding would have a devastating impact on the creative and performing arts, resulting in course closures, job losses and severely affecting efforts to widen participation in these vital subjects. @ucu https://t.co/acsskJe6wF via @megaphoneuk
Important: Today @sheffielduni decides whether they will close down their archaeology department - one of the most important arch departments in the U.K. PLEASE can you sign this petition so it hits 50,000- it’s SO close & tweet #SaveSheffieldArchaeology

Although my job is no longer at risk in the current process, I, like many colleagues, have been left bruised and exhausted from 10 weeks of intense stress.
I stand by my colleagues still under threat and will be there on 24 July.
Solidarity.

NO FURTHER CAKE PROTESTS PLANNED🦁
I'm keeping my job!!! Small pay cut but I am richer now: new friends & part of a bigger, longer term cause to work for fairness for university staff & students across the UK. #noredundancieschester is very close!!! @ChesterUcu@ucu_solidarity
Members have just overwhelmingly passed a motion agreeing to keep up the pressure on management to meet our deadline of the 1st September to withdraw ALL compulsory redundancies
Chester UCU have just unanimously passed a solidarity motion with @ULivUCU2 and pledged to support their hardship fund. The way staff and students are being treated is a disgrace and we stand in solidarity with them.
Please get in touch with us. Let’s join forces and help save jobs! Let’s save the very core and heart of university education- that ALL SUBJECTS MATTER ❤️ VCs will be in contact between them… it’s time we were too!
Ye are many- they are few ❤️

Thank you @ChesterUcu for your tireless work supporting our staff & educators and defending our departments from forced redundancies.
There is power in a union.
The harmful impact of this cruel, poorly planned and mismanaged redundancies process will be enduring. An unforgivably destructive act by the VC and senior team.
The only saving grace is that the strength and solidarity we have built as a union branch will last too.
The tenacity with which staff and students have fought, and will go on fighting, to defend our university shows the true spirit of our institution.
The VC and senior management have exposed how little they know or care about what makes a university.

@ArchaeologyChe1@ChesterUcu Very relieved to see this news but let's not forget the awful mental and financial stress this process has caused on staff, their families, and students. Archaeology is a thriving discipline that should be available to study beyond Russell Group providers.
IT’S WORKING! Colleagues in history and archaeology have just been informed they are no longer at risk of redundancy. This is down to UCU plus an incredible and well supported campaign by @ArchaeologyChe1 and @VoicesChester
Let’s keep fighting, we CAN save every job!
This week we put senior management on notice. They saved jobs in 3 departments, now save them all. If that doesn't happen by Sept 1st, we move into dispute and ballot for strikes in the new academic year.
Does the VC want her very own 'winter of discontent'? Let's find out.
