Save Sheffield Trees

We're campaigning to save Sheffield Trees :-)

[Save Sheffield Trees @SaveSheffTrees]

Today at #Sheffield Council a man who grew up on free school meals turned up with a petition asking the council to help feed poorer Sheffield children over the Xmas holidays.

Julie Dore just laid into him because he didn't support Labour.

Just how much lower can they sink?

[Newark Advertiser @advertisergroup]

BREAKING: The tree chop has been stopped, provided councillors vote for a last-minute deal offered by the #Newark Library gardens landowner.

Words to come...

[SaveKirkleesTrees💚🌲🌳💚 @KirkleesTrees]

This is a 200+ year old veteran beech tree in Huddersfield. It is due for the chop. We must stop this mindless destruction.

Please sign and share our petition.

It is difficult to express how I feel about this development. We joined the campaign when others thought the campaigners were 'over zealous loony lefties'. Chris has spent hours reading, understanding, writing. Trying to fight for a just cause, in the face of toxic politics.

@alisonclareteal @Timewalkproject @DeepsShetty @DenzpDp @DillnerDave @calvinmarkpayne @LouiseCOMS @paulpowlesland Will they have to give evidence whether they want to or not?

Will it be under oath/affirmation?

If not, what can it possibly achieve? How will they convince us of their veracity, given their track record?

[Timewalk Project @Timewalkproject]

@alisonclareteal @DeepsShetty @moonhare77 @DenzpDp @DillnerDave @calvinmarkpayne @LouiseCOMS @paulpowlesland Hard to know and that is why we need a proper inquiry and trust can be rebuilt, as at present its not only frustrating electorate, it is putting off funders and investors.

[Save Sheffield Trees @SaveSheffTrees]

@AshRouth @shaffaqmohd @SheffieldGreens @SheffLabour @SheffTreeAction Seriously?!

This guy turned up right at the beginning with SORT @LouiseCOMS @DeepsShetty @calvinmarkpayne @DillnerDave

[Calvin Payne @calvinmarkpayne]

An inquiry shouldn't be soft and secret. That should be obvious. https://t.co/YbFQq5o6UE

[Save Sheffield Trees @SaveSheffTrees]

The new executive haven't even TRIED to get a proper independent inquiry.

Yes of course they cost money but don't rule out before even exploring options.

Labour totally off the hook & the people of Sheffield totally sold out!

Meet the "new politics" same as the old politics

[Timewalk Project @Timewalkproject]

@DeepsShetty @moonhare77 @DenzpDp @alisonclareteal @DillnerDave @calvinmarkpayne @LouiseCOMS @paulpowlesland I think most people woke up when Rustlings Road happened. No way anyone can justify dragging old ladies out of bed in the middle of the night. To chop down a healthy tree! Was like we were living in an Authoritarian State.

[Save Sheffield Trees @SaveSheffTrees]

So what is a "local inquiry?"

Who sets it up ?
Who's in charge ?
Who decides the terms / scope?
Who gets called to give evidence?
How will we know its recommendations will be taken seriously ?
How will impartiality be ensured?

Sheffield deserves better than a whitewash

[Joe Otten 🗳 🇬🇧🇺🇦 🔶️ 🎭🏊🏻‍♂️ @JoeOttenX]

This is as close as I am allowed to Sheffield Full Council today.

I don't object to self-isolating as required.

But if we lose any votes by 1, that will be because the government has refused to allow hybrid or virtual meetings. This is unfair to the people who elected me.

[Calvin Payne @calvinmarkpayne]

At this week's council meeting the new administration spells out it's priorities. At the bottom there is a pledge to hold a "local inquiry" into the tree felling saga. I don't know what a local inquiry is. I fully support the Opposition motion calling for a public inquiry.

[Paul Selby @PaulSelby18]

Here's the May '16 cutting I took of the Chelsea Road elm tree. It was 4 inches tall then. 5 years later, its now around 96 inches tall. Younger elms find it harder to fight off DED than large mature elms. So there's every chance it will be killed in the next 5 years.... (1 of 2)

Extraordinary story: Sheffield Council's former head of city regeneration accuses senior councillor responsible for city regeneration projects of 'openly associating with and supporting the interests of certain private commercial parties'. Probe ongoing.

⚡️It's official. Great article in today's @yorkshirepost announcing our partnership with the amazing @TreesforCities who will match fund up to 7.5k money we raise for street trees on Abbeydale Road. We are very nearly there so please sponsor if you can! https://t.co/JQomJVYQ3o

Interesting comments from a LibDem election candidate. Looks like an independent enquiry into Tree scandal is one of their demands w/ other parties in council leadership negotiations

Is this official @tompjparkin?

Or can @JayMitchinson @LutheBlue @LizzieRoberts shed any light?

[Tom Parkin @tompjparkin]

An excellent plan to kickstart the much needed economic recovery in Sheffield and learn lessons from the disastrous tree felling fiasco. 👇
