Very exciting week for Sawitzki Lab! 🎉 We’ve moved into brand-new lab spaces at the Rahel Hirsch Center for Translational Medicine (BIH & Charité).
Plus, we’ve made the leap to Bluesky where you will find us under the same handle! 🚀
A great collaborative effort by Birgit Sawitzki, Lev Petrov, @woodernrobo, Sophia Brumhard, Philipp Georg @phige21, Anna Hiller, Leif Erik Sander @Sander_Lab, Nils Blüthgen @molsysbio, @RalserLab, @ewyler, @robuelow, @rosasta_g and many others!
Why does age make COVID-19 more dangerous? Our latest study shows molecular shifts with age, revealing how changes in immune signaling drive enhanced inflammation across the immune cell landscape.

We analyzed patients who had type I IFN autoantibodies. They showed the most extreme phenotype. We even detected similar shift in signaling in young (ISGs) and adult hamsters (S100A genes) infected with COVID-19, suggesting that we discovered a general aging-induced concept.
Don´t forget to register for the Berlin-wide Immunology & Inflammation Symposium 2024 on Oct 7, at Charité Campus Mitte
Registration and abstract submission deadline is extended until Sep 12!
