I was 9 when my mom passed away from cancer on a Tuesday in 2004.

The boy next to me, a rowdy kid who usually teased everyone, leaned over and read it out loud before I could hide it.
The table went dead silent. It hit me all at once, and my vision blurred with tears.
He didn't laugh. He didn't say a word. He just quietly slid his favorite chocolate chip cookie onto my tray, tapped my shoulder, and stood up.
