They’re making an income based on an affiliation with a public entity. As someone who worked for a public entity, I had to report all other incomes and could not personally profit from my affiliation with that institution without certain approvals. I’m all for athletes making money, I don’t know what the regulation should look like, but there should be some oversight which also regulates “tampering” and things like that.
From a simple economic standpoint, regulation is key to a stable market. That said the vast majority of universities are government entities and profiting off an affiliation with a government entity is subject to oversight and regulation by congress. The NCAA as an entity could always decided to adopt a pro style of governance and place salary caps/disclosure of outside earnings like the pro leagues do. That would also require some government oversight because of the relationship with public universities.
Regulation makes sense here, if non-revenue sports are deemed unnecessary or undesirable the governing body would need to remove a regulation that is currently in place and possibly pursue some legal intervention as some of that could lead to title 9 violations by public universities.
Regulations exist, some were removed due to the rights of an individual to profit from their NIL, this is just an adjustment to previous regulations.
@WGTD_Tracer 100% agree, but sometimes those local bands become bigger and you’d still like to see them. My first Ragweed show was a $10 cover. I’ve paid a whole lot of money for my last few Ragweed shows, and I will again. Hopefully while purchasing a limited edition vinyl of a new album.
@RedDirtMediaCo@CollegeSportsCo I never hold transferring against someone. He’s not from Oklahoma & by choice he left OU (which was a reasonable decision for him), he doesn’t owe the school, the fans, or me anything, but I ain’t celebrating him either.
The current NCAA champs are already discussing swimming potentially becoming a club sport. While I understand people love making fun of swimming, golf, wrestling, hockey, soccer, baseball, etc. are all going to be on the table. It’s just a matter of time before they start reducing the number of varsity sports required for D1 participation.
@NotAnOKCFan@RockettSooner The only reason it matters at all is in the arguments to not overreact with roster moves. Thankfully Presti doesn’t care what any of us think and will move forward with or without our blessing.
Wimby doesn’t have a MVP. Conference finals mpvs aren’t real. There are finals mvps (likely to get it) and MVPs he’ll have to wait a year. He’s a legit talent, so is Jokic, Luka, and SGA. Problem with the league is the way they try to package things and their reaction to loud fans instead of thinking about showcasing great basketball.
@stevemagness So if the call is overturned, they won. They shouldn’t be co-champs, just champs, right? I don’t know the rules well enough to know if they should have been DQ’d,but in overturning it, they then got first, by a considerable margin, they didn’t tie anyone.
The left is what kept him out during this series. I’m not sure how much he well he would have played after missing so much of the season, but it was the opposite leg from the regular season. Actually way more concerning for OKC fans that he injured the opposite leg. Also, wins are wins regardless of player availability, maybe it’s different if he was availed l, maybe it isn’t. You don’t have to be mad, yall won.
@CottonMunson@Jpe22101@EGE_JBecks@GoodmanHoops Original injury was to the right leg. Injured the left during this series. No excuse, injuries are part of the game. That said Spurs are a dirty team.
