Full solidarity to all children and young adults in our schools, along with their parents, who have come here to Ireland for a better life. You are very welcome. Our classroom are far better places with you in them.🖕🏼the haters. The gov now needs to step up and provide resources.
Delighted to receive the Thomas MacDonagh medal from @astiunion tonight. The best teaching union by a long shot. But I’m still not sure why on earth they are giving me an award 🤷🏻♂️🤪 I’m only doing what we all should be doing. Grateful and honored nonetheless.
Last weeks Podcast incase you missed it. Teachers reaction to the New Leaving Cert Proposals feat. @KMUBarry@mwal77@peter_lydon and @JenniferHorgan5.

On world autism day it’s worth reminding ourselves of the difficulty children and their parents have in accessing proper classroom facilities in this country. A massive thank you to @GMCManning for his insight and endless fight for better schools. https://t.co/UctQ8l8kqm
Just listend back to this today for the first time since recording. It’s very good. Great insight from @RobertChaney and @mwal77. Particularly important in light of people again saying that the LC needs to change in recent days. Does it? And what changes? https://t.co/L7RSkXsWuf
🎙Couple of podcasts coming up over the next few weeks. We will again be discussing the Leaving Cert, the CAO, their purpose and relevance. We will also be looking at the divisive decision that the unions are being asked to make regarding the 1% pay ‘rise’ 🎙

Add your classroom temperature here ➡️ https://t.co/hJAn6SG8Vn
School staff, as we return to our workplaces, it is important that we have a record of the low temperatures in our classrooms. You can log a new temperature each day.

Wishing Olive, her family and in particular her daughter a speedy recovery 💪🏼💪🏼. Olive has been a tireless fighter for better safety measures for children since all this began.
Was going to do a podcast this week on ‘school mitigation measures’ but Jasus we’d just be repeating ourselves. There is already 3/4 episodes covering this from LAST YEAR and still nothing has changed 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️. Dept doing nothing and our unions 🤐
@Brenbyrn2 So yes I agree with your sentiment but I think we as teachers need to be stronger in demanding something to be done. There is no ‘the union’. that is every teacher, who can go to branch meetings and who have a vote. Many choose not to 🤷🏻♂️
This teacher supply crisis is nothing new. This has been brewing for years. Unequal pay, a shit new pension scheme, initiative overload, breaking up of jobs into ‘hours’. Teachers have been blowing the whistle for years and Absolutely NOTHING was done. COVID just threw the spark.
@Brenbyrn2 👍🏼Just a couple of things. 1.ASTI has taken strike action numerous times on equal pay but should have been more sustained in my view. 2. Retired teachers don’t have a vote on whether to take action or not. 3. It’s internal debate that caused action to end not ‘the union’.
