A message for ALL who care about science:
A Biden nomination seems to us both irrational, and anathema to the sense wonder, inspiration, and deep empathy that inspired us to science in the first place.
Here’s why 1/n
I am calling on every CEO in America to publicly commit now to not buying back their company's stock over the course of the next year. As workers face the physical and economic consequences of the coronavirus, our corporate leaders cannot cede responsibility for their employees.
Piketty: "The cynical, and unfortunately very commonplace vision among the Democratic elites, that nothing can be done to mobilize further the working-class vote, is extremely dangerous. In the last resort, [it] weakens the legitimacy of the democratic electoral system itself."
Thomas Piketty on Bernie Sanders: "Let it be said at once: the treatment received by Bernie Sanders in the leading media in the United States and in Europe is unjust and dangerous." https://t.co/FTMsjb6XUR
The coronavirus crisis is on a scale of a major war. We need:
🏥Testing and health care for all
💵Direct economic aid to every worker
🏡No evictions, foreclosures or utility shutoffs
🏭U.S. production of medical supplies
Now is the time for solidarity. We are in this together.
It is unconscionable that these primaries are moving forward when with a little more time everyone could vote by mail and NOT risk their health and risk infecting others.
It’s insanely reckless that all of tomorrow’s primaries haven’t been postponed.
Par for the course for an arrogant nation that also doesn’t value voter turnout.
The Democratic Party must postpone the primaries. Encouraging everyone in a community to all come together in one location to stand in line, touch all the same surfaces, then spread back out in the community might be the absolute stupidest thing we could do
#PostponeThePrimaries
We are scientists
Bernie listens to us
Exemplified by his aggressive vs your entirely inadequate climate plan but also on many other issues
More importantly, he always prioritizes human over corporate needs. You have not. On drug pricing, bankruptcy bill, NAFTA, endless wars etc
Big takeaway from this #DemDebate is that everything that Biden used to think he no longer thinks. Besides, when he voted for those bad things so did almost everyone else (except Bernie), so it doesn't count. #Leadership.
It's shortsighted how @JoeBiden embraces the health-related policies @BernieSanders proposes - paid leave, free healthcare, etc - but *only* for coronavirus.
Cancer? Out of luck.
Diabetes? Out of luck.
Coronavirus? Ok fine.
Healthcare is a human right now and always. #DemDebate
Monopolizing life-saving vaccines to have sole discretion over global prices, potentially determining who lives and who dies (usually poor people) is disgusting and inhumane
Yet that is how our ENTIRE SYSTEM works
Fully nauseated?
Good
Go change the world

Encouraging everyone in a community to come to one place and touch all the same shit feels wildly irresponsible. Biden is ignoring science. People who are NOT showing symptoms ARE shedding virus.
Social distancing is our most effective tool, especially since we do not have M4A.
The right to vote is the most sacred American right there is. State election officials are working closely with public health officials to hold safe elections. If you are feeling healthy, not showing symptoms, and not at risk of being exposed to COVID-19: please vote on Tuesday.
