NIH is not issuing awards. You may think that it's because they it is coming up with new directions of research...The apposite is true.
Here is a graph showing how many fewer new funding opportunities that NIH has posted over time.

Stress shapes how we learn, remember, and respond to the world.
A new Yale-led study shows how the stress hormone cortisol alters communication networks in the brain and can strengthen emotional memories. Researcher Elizabeth Goldfarb says the team is also exploring when stress might support learning and adaptation, not just hinder it.

Good God we hit the trifecta this week. High fat cheese associated with lower risk of all-cause dementia, naps increase brain size and exercise mediates alcohol intake
"Higher intake of high-fat cheese and high-fat cream was associated with a lower risk of all-cause dementia."
Results of a 25-year prospective study of ~27,000 participants.
The purported benefit was not linked to APOE4 carriers or low-fat cheese intake

Highlighting the first person to discover evidence of radioactivity, Henri Becquerel, who was born on 15 December 1852.
In 1896 Becquerel discovered radioactivity. This inspired Marie and Pierre Curie to further investigate the phenomenon. They examined many substances and minerals for signs of radioactivity. They found that the mineral pitchblende was more radioactive than uranium and concluded that it must contain other radioactive substances. From it they managed to extract two previously unknown elements, polonium and radium, both more radioactive than uranium.
Becquerel shared the 1903 physics prize with Pierre Curie and Marie Curie, née Skłodowska for their discovery of radioactivity.

New Study 🇳🇴: Even small increases in alcohol intake raise mortality risk — but cardiorespiratory fitness strongly modifies that risk.
👉Staying out of the lowest 20% in fitness nearly neutralized the added mortality risk from moderate drinking🏃♂️🍷
