@puslapuu@Teacrumpets @realkirkpatrick @SwipeWright I mean, Nixon created the EPA, and signed the clean air and endangered species acts into law
Reagan created amnesty for illegal immigrants
GW Bush expanded Medicare and launched a presidential initiative to combat AIDS in Africa
Repubs have become far more extreme on all this
@WorldSTEM_Bob @realkirkpatrick @SwipeWright And yet here we see the opposite
I wonder why for example my super conservative grandpa became disgusted with modern conservatives around the point that Trump came around
Repubs used to be people like McCain and Romney, come on, those were extremely more moderate than today
@edward81502 @realkirkpatrick @SwipeWright Here you go
Although I fear sometimes that modern conservatives don’t trust any formerly reputable for all orgs, such as Pew
The more extreme the party has become the more they’ve also retreated into only trusting conservative information too
@ehansalytics @realkirkpatrick @SwipeWright Yeah right
This graph from Pew shows how ideology has changed … which one is moving the most?
Although I doubt the graph will convince anyone, as repubs have basically retreated from shared sources of info such a Pew research and now only trust conservative sources of info
@Teacrumpets @realkirkpatrick @SwipeWright Nah, I’m a center left guy and I can clearly see the right wing has grown very far right
It’s def not only 1 side
Also wild to say the far right loonies don’t control the party today, lol
Even my super conservative grandpas been disgusted with what they’ve become for years now
@sirmarz1985@allenanalysis@Grok is government spending open data that anyone can look at?
If so, did the Trump administration spend more than the Biden administration so far?
@JustifytheTruth@iamAtheistGirl Of course not, you’re never going to find agreement among all humans.
Religion won’t do it either, because there’s a diversity of beliefs.
@JustifytheTruth@iamAtheistGirl By what causes harm vs what causes well-being is a good one
Certainly better than: whatever these few guys wrote is the absolute truth. (Except for all the obviously bad or impractical parts, I guess).
@Gsarto3514@iamAtheistGirl Luckily enough of us believe that harming others is bad, because we’re social and empathetic animals
We all have mothers, brothers, sisters, and can put ourselves in the place of victims
Nothing else is needed.
Whereas you needed to read it in a book for some reason
@Gsarto3514@iamAtheistGirl What do you mean there’s no such thing?
I said we’re literally wired to recognize that behavior.
That’s like saying there’s no such thing as “a friend” because that’s just some category we recognize and there wasn’t some ancient superbeing who gave the category legitimacy
@Gsarto3514@iamAtheistGirl No, I think it’s wired into our social biology to recognize sadistic behavior.
I also think you take your morality from somewhere else than the Bible just as I do.
For example, the Bible condones slavery and never once condemns it.
But I bet you’d say slavery is bad, no? Why?
@Gsarto3514@iamAtheistGirl Our biology largely dictates what makes us better off vs what makes us suffer.
Other than that, there’s no such thing as “objective good and evil”, those are religious ideas which don’t actually exist in the real world.
Which is why every culture developed diff. ethical norms
